Student answer (Band 6.5)
The issue of housing in metro cities has become significantly important in the recent years. Government should construct multi complex buildings to deal with housing shortages. Although, tall buildings have few negative aspects, I strongly agree with this statement because of lower housing cost and reducing land pollution.
One of the main reasons for my position is that high rise housing costs lesser than de-attached homes. This is largely because buildings have similar infrastructure and layout for almost every apartment. For example: skyscrapers complexes are constructed by a single contractor, the raw materials and other necessary materials are sourced in bulk from one Vendor which to leads to lower selling value of apartments. As a result, people with low incomes can afford their own properties.
Another significant reason is that tall building mitigate the risk of land pollution. The primary reason for this is vertical construction method of buildings which contributes to small land occupancy. For instance, government has took initiative to build complex housing in big cities like Mumbai, to utilize the remaining land for national conservation wildlife park. Consequently, the non-utilised land restores natural habitat for wildlife.
Moreover, metro cities are overpopulated area as compared to outskirts. People relocate to big cities from towns for better professional opportunities. Majority of famous enterprises have their head-offices set up in developed areas, ultimately requires more workforce. The huge population of migrates can be efficiently accommodated in tall buildings.
To conclude, I firmly agree that the most appropriate way to provide shelter to people in big cities is constructing skyscraper homes, mainly because housing will be affordable regardless of the class and multi-story building will also eliminate the risk of land pollution.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have clearly addressed the prompt and maintained a consistent position throughout the essay. Your arguments regarding cost-effectiveness and land conservation are relevant and well-supported with examples, such as the reference to Mumbai. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are fully developed; for instance, the third paragraph regarding overpopulation is slightly disconnected from the main argument about tall buildings. While you mention that tall buildings accommodate migrants, you could further explain how this specifically addresses the 'best way' aspect of the prompt compared to alternative housing solutions. Overall, your response is focused and directly answers the question.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'One of the main reasons,' 'Another significant reason,' and 'Moreover' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and flow. For example, the phrase 'Although, tall buildings have few negative aspects' is grammatically awkward and disrupts the flow. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall cohesion of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'infrastructure,' 'mitigate,' 'occupancy,' and 'migrates.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'de-attached homes' (detached homes), 'raw materials... sourced in bulk from one Vendor which to leads' (which leads), and 'government has took initiative' (has taken). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word forms and collocations to reach the higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this level. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and articles, such as 'government has took initiative' and 'tall building mitigate' (should be 'buildings mitigate'). Additionally, there are punctuation errors, such as the unnecessary comma after 'Although' and the colon usage in the second paragraph. While these errors rarely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
