Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the recent years , construction of the high rise buildings for accommodation purposes has become a widely debated issue. While some people argue that it is not an effected way to provide homes for individuals but i strongly believe that it is best way to provide enough accommodation to people in metropolitian cities. This essay will discuss the main reasons for my view point.

The primary reason why i agree with this view is that more people can live in tall apartments rather than individuals houses while consuming less space. This is mainly because the larger cities have less space to build homes , so expanding buildings vertically is more suitable choice. For example, cities like Tokyo , Dubai and New York follows this same exact strategy to provide homes for citizens. There are many immigrants in these cities so authorities have to plan carefully to resolve the accommodation crises.

Another compelling reason is that residents get more facilities living in apartments.People get advantages such as security , water supply , Gym and playing area for kids.If inviduals are living in seperate homes they have to worry about all these things. For instance , in a community of apartments all these facilities are provided equally to all residents but people living in homes are responsible for their security and all the facilities.

In conclusion , although living in homes provide more privacy and space but in case of large cities i firmly believe that constructing tall building is better way to provide houses because of they need less space and provide all essential facilities to residents.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. The arguments regarding space efficiency and shared facilities are relevant and logically developed. However, the development is somewhat basic; for instance, the comparison between apartment living and individual houses could be deepened by discussing the socio-economic impact or urban planning challenges more thoroughly. While the position is clear, the supporting examples (Tokyo, Dubai, New York) are mentioned but not fully explained in terms of how they specifically solve the housing crisis. Overall, the essay covers all parts of the task well, but the depth of analysis remains at a functional level rather than a highly sophisticated one.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, such as space efficiency or resident facilities. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'The primary reason', 'Another compelling reason', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that the logical flow between sentences is more seamless and less formulaic.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'metropolitan' and 'accommodation crises', which are used correctly. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'effected way' (should be 'effective way') and 'individual houses' (should be 'individual houses' or 'detached houses'). The range is sufficient to communicate the message, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Improving the variety of synonyms and refining collocations would significantly enhance the quality of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the high rise buildings', 'the larger cities') and pluralization ('individual houses' vs 'individuals houses'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and proofreading for basic punctuation and spelling errors to ensure a more polished and professional presentation.
