Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, the best way to accommodate a large group of people in big cities is to build large flats. I completely agree to this statement. This essay discuss about the positive sides of the above view.

Firstly, tall apartments saves space. To elaborate it further, urban cities often have less space to accommodate a large population. In order to solve this problem, implementation of apartment culture is now on trend. As a result, more people prefer flats and large apartments that helps them to be more budget friendly in terms of occupying space , water, electricity and other resources. Recent studies shows that, people living in the outskirts of cities sell their independent houses to buy apartments in the cities. This itself states that people opt more on budget friendly spaces.

Secondly ,apartments in large cities are more convenient. Furthermore, it ease the travel expenses. To make it clear, most of the flats or apartments are located in the heart of the city which is near to a school, hospital, shopping centres or local markets. Hence, apartment dwellers need not have the risk or stress of time management .Moreover, these flats have entertainment facilities like movie theatre, park, swimming pool etc which equip the people to get over boredom. For example , in Kerala ,during Onam season majority of flats and apartments conducted Onam celebrations that highlighted the convenience and refreshed the minds of the people. Many of them had the opinion that, being with a large group of people saved their time and energy in spending on other expensive entertainments like travel, shopping etc.

To conclude, changes in urban spacing infrastructure is advancing day by day. Even though , traditional hosing has its own benefits, present generation mostly choose big apartments in the city as it not only saves space and money but also gives comfort and convenience.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The ideas are relevant, focusing on space efficiency and convenience. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding 'budget friendly' living is asserted but not fully explained in terms of how tall buildings specifically achieve this compared to other high-density housing. The example provided about Onam celebrations is a bit specific and tangential to the broader argument about urban housing infrastructure. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more analytical depth rather than just listing benefits.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or misused, such as 'To elaborate it further' or 'To make it clear', which feel a bit repetitive. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear; for example, in the second paragraph, the link between 'apartment culture' and 'budget friendly' resources could be more smoothly connected. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, but the flow could be more natural.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'infrastructure' and 'accommodate', but the range is somewhat limited. Some word choices are slightly imprecise, such as 'urban spacing infrastructure' or 'independent houses' (when referring to detached homes). There are also minor collocation issues, such as 'implementation of apartment culture is now on trend'. To improve, focus on using more precise academic collocations and varying your word choice to avoid repeating terms like 'apartments' and 'flats'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('tall apartments saves space', 'Recent studies shows', 'majority of flats... conducted'), incorrect preposition usage ('agree to this statement' instead of 'agree with'), and minor punctuation errors (spacing before commas). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article usage would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
