Student answer (Band 5.5)

The excellent step is to construct flats rather then personel home in urban areas. In cities there is land problem and shortage of space in this way, a building which have more homes to facilitate public but there are some drawbacks to live together.I partlly agree or disaagree with this statement.

On one hand, living in an apartment is very cheap rather than in home.To construct own home is not possible for everyone because the tax ratio is also high and in urban areas there is a big issue of land shortage. For example Lahore is a very populated city and it has no more space for those who are coming from rural areas.Furthermore, we can overcome the ratio of home shortage by making high buildings which have many apartments in it.

On the other hand, live in an apartment is sometime very disgusting.Acoording to my personel experience, i visited my Karachi`s apartment which is a very beautiful flat of two rooms. However, the problem was that there were no gas and water and there is timetable of these facilities. If bloak A electricity is switch on then block B electricity will be off. There are some desasters like this in many areas especially in apartments.

To conclude, there are many issues which people have to bear in flats but economically it is very budget friendly.Furthermore,If a person cannot fulfill his desire to making his own home then they can afford flat and can live happily. Moreover, there are no garden and play area in apartment people can not enjoy freely they can not spend time on their own tarace.

Finally, it depends on your budget and choice but i personally like to live in my home with a beautiful garden.I want to grow my organic food this is very essential for mental health also.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the advantages and disadvantages of tall apartment blocks. However, the position is not consistently clear; the introduction states the writer 'partially agrees or disagrees,' which is vague. While the essay touches on economic benefits and infrastructure issues, the development is somewhat superficial. The arguments regarding land shortage and utility issues are relevant but lack depth. The conclusion introduces new ideas about personal desires and organic gardening that were not fully integrated into the main argument, making the overall position feel slightly disjointed. To improve, ensure a clear, singular stance is maintained throughout and provide more detailed, logical support for each point.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, 'In this way' and 'Furthermore' are used, but the logical flow between sentences is sometimes interrupted by awkward phrasing or abrupt shifts in topic. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the transition between the discussion of Lahore and the general concept of high-rise buildings. The progression of ideas is present but lacks the sophistication required for higher bands. Improving the variety and precision of linking words would significantly enhance the flow of the essay.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision needed for a higher score. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'disgusting' to describe living conditions, 'desasters' (spelling error), and 'personel home.' The student relies on basic vocabulary and struggles with collocations, such as 'overcome the ratio of home shortage' or 'timetable of these facilities.' While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of variety and the presence of spelling errors (e.g., 'bloak,' 'tarace') limit the score. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic and precise terms would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in articles ('the tax ratio,' 'the land problem'), subject-verb agreement ('a building which have'), and sentence construction ('If bloak A electricity is switch on'). Punctuation is also problematic, with missing spaces after periods and incorrect capitalization. While the errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be distracting. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence patterns, subject-verb agreement, and consistent punctuation before attempting more complex structures.
