Student answer (Band 5.0)

Due to the increasing population more and more homes are being recquired and the trend of building houses is changing people preffer to live in an apartment.in this exam i will be sharing my point of view on why building tall apartment blocks is better for the enviroment and more sustainable.

I believe providing tall apartments is better aproach to providing houses for the people. because houses in the modern era are so expensive due to inflation and an average person may not even be able to buy a normal size house even with his life time savings. building appartment is more sustainable for the enviroment because it does not recquire a huge space especially compared to the housing schemes that have a radius of thousands of miles. lots of deforestation would be done which distrupt the animals habitat. already many animals are going extinct for this exact reason for example, tigers , rhinos , birds etc.

Having said that many poeople prefer to live in a house since they can afford it and i believe their right should not be taken away but some policies should be passed such as in specific areas where there are wildlife present those areas should completely be banned for cutting trees down

I believe even though it is totally based upon ones opinion . the appartment blocks should be provided more because the pros out weights the cons and majority of the population can only afford apartments.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of tall apartment blocks. However, the essay fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which negatively impacts the development of ideas. While the argument regarding sustainability and affordability is relevant, the supporting points are somewhat superficial and lack depth. For instance, the mention of deforestation and animal extinction is a good starting point but is not fully explored or linked back to the specific context of urban planning. To improve, you should expand on your arguments with more detailed examples and ensure you meet the minimum length requirement to allow for a more thorough exploration of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of your argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical. There are issues with punctuation, such as missing spaces after periods and inconsistent capitalization, which disrupt the flow of the text. For example, 'apartment.in this exam' and 'i will be sharing' show a lack of attention to basic formatting. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'nevertheless') and ensure that your paragraphing is clearly defined by standard punctuation practices.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range expected at higher bands. There are several spelling errors, such as 'recquired', 'preffer', 'enviroment', 'aproach', 'appartment', and 'distrupt'. These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable. While you attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'inflation' and 'sustainable', the overall range is limited. To improve, focus on learning the correct spelling of common academic words and try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms to avoid repetition of basic terms like 'houses' or 'building'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While there are some attempts at complex sentences, they are often marred by grammatical errors, such as 'the pros out weights the cons' (subject-verb agreement) and 'it is totally based upon ones opinion' (missing possessive apostrophe). Punctuation is a significant issue throughout the text, particularly with missing spaces after full stops and inconsistent capitalization of the pronoun 'I'. To improve, practice using a wider variety of complex sentence structures and pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and basic punctuation rules to ensure your writing is grammatically accurate.
