Student answer (Band 6.5)
There is an ongoing debate about whether building tall apartments would be the best way to solve the house crises in large cities. Although there are some disadvantages of living in apartments, I agree that it would help to create more homes in big regions.
One of the main reasons why apartments might be a good solution for big cities is that the space available to built houses in busy places is limited. Cities such as Florianopolis, for example, have an increasing problem with the lack of houses for their workers due to the limited sections available. As a consequence, people tend to move to the countryside. This results at a significant increase in traffic jam, as well as the rise on house rental. To prevent this situation, the best practice would be the construction of tall apartment blocks, and the population would be able to live near their work places.
The disadvantage of living in an apartment is the lack of private space. Those building tend to be smaller than a house, with no garden or outside area. Some places, like Tokyo, have been building smaller apartments each year. As a result, people who need to be near their work, need to live sometimes in a space that is does not provide a quality of life. To outweigh this problem, the government should bear the responsability of introduce regulations to provide a space with mininum conditions for a person to live.
To conclude, even though there are some disadvantages in building tall apartments in large cities, I believe that this solution would be better to the house crises situation that some cities are facing.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. You have identified the core issue—urban density and limited land—and provided relevant examples like Florianopolis and Tokyo to support your arguments. The ideas are extended, though the discussion on the 'disadvantages' could be more deeply explored to reach a higher band. You have successfully balanced the argument by acknowledging the drawbacks of high-rise living while maintaining that it is a necessary solution. To improve, ensure that your conclusion synthesizes the main points more effectively rather than just restating your position.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'As a consequence' and 'To conclude', which help the flow. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there is room for more sophisticated linking words to connect sentences within paragraphs more fluidly. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure supports the development of your argument well.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'ongoing debate', 'limited sections', and 'quality of life'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'house crises' (housing crisis) and 'responsability of introduce' (responsibility to introduce). While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, some phrasing is slightly unnatural. To reach a higher band, focus on more precise collocations and ensure that your word forms (e.g., nouns vs. verbs) are consistently accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'space available to built' (build), 'results at' (in), and 'a space that is does not provide'. These errors are noticeable but do not impede communication. Your control of punctuation is generally good, but you should pay closer attention to verb forms and prepositions. To improve, try to incorporate a wider variety of complex structures, such as conditional sentences or passive voice, while ensuring they are error-free.
