Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 182 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, as the essay is incomplete and ends abruptly mid-sentence. While you have identified a position, the arguments regarding the elderly and children are somewhat anecdotal and lack the depth required for an academic task. The prompt asks for an evaluation of tall apartment blocks as a solution to housing shortages, but the response focuses almost exclusively on negative safety aspects without balancing the discussion or addressing the 'housing' aspect of the prompt effectively. To improve, ensure you fully develop your arguments and provide a clear conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay uses basic paragraphing, but the progression of ideas is hindered by the incomplete nature of the text. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with' and 'Furthermore', but they are sometimes used mechanically. The final paragraph is left unfinished, which disrupts the logical flow and prevents a coherent conclusion. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs lacks sophistication. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that every paragraph has a clear topic sentence and a logical conclusion that ties back to the main argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'a lots of blocks' and 'brutal way' are unnatural and imprecise. There are also errors in word choice, such as 'fire brigators' (firefighters) and 'detrimental aspects' (which is used incorrectly in this context). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas clearly. To improve, you should focus on learning collocations and more academic vocabulary related to urban planning and housing. Avoid using informal or overly simplistic language and try to incorporate more precise terminology to convey your points effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('demand for houses are increasing'), article usage ('the space is the major aspect'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple or contain punctuation errors, such as missing spaces before commas and periods. The lack of complex sentence structures limits your ability to demonstrate grammatical control. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Proofreading for punctuation and basic syntax errors will also help improve your score significantly.
