Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 111 words. Consequently, the task is not fully addressed, and the ideas are severely underdeveloped. While the writer attempts to introduce the topic, the position is not clearly articulated, and the arguments lack the necessary depth, supporting evidence, or examples required for an academic essay. The response is far too brief to allow for a full development of the prompt, resulting in a significant penalty for task achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear logical progression. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the ideas within the paragraphs are disjointed and repetitive. Cohesive devices are largely absent or used incorrectly, making the flow of the argument difficult to follow. The introduction is confusing, and the transition between ideas is mechanical rather than natural. To improve, the student should focus on using linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast') to connect sentences and ensure each paragraph has a clear, singular focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic terms like 'big' and 'helpful'. There are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'appropriate method to provide enough residence' and 'more systematics'. These errors occasionally impede the clarity of the message. To reach a higher band, the student needs to expand their range of vocabulary to include more precise, academic terminology and demonstrate a better understanding of how words function together in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentence structures. There are frequent errors in basic grammar, including missing articles ('in large cities'), incorrect verb forms ('building large apartment in cities helpful'), and punctuation issues. These errors are persistent and sometimes make the meaning unclear. The student should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, before attempting more complex structures.
