Student answer (Band 5.5)
The terrific way to give enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks.
I strongly agree that it will enough homes in big cities if they build tall apartment blocks. Because it can be build in low price than making houses however it consume less land space than houses. Moreever the people get more facilities than a average house. It also reduces the garbage issue the streets and environment will be more clean. The rent of the apartment is also less than an house. The cleaning of the rooms is easy and less time consuming than a house. Also its good for those who working in a office and can’t afford a house.
I slightly disagree with that because the apartments have low space and rooms than house. If someone have a joint or lager family then it will difficult for them to live in a flat because the flats are only for three to four persons. However another challenging thing is for those who are living in higher floors because they always have to climb that stairs for getting lower or higher this can be a big trouble for old age people who barely walk's also the children who are not teenagers because they also have to climb that stairs. The government should make a lift to solve this problem.
In conclusion the government should make some tall flats for more space but they should some significant facilities. For instance lift and making some bigger flats for those who has a big family.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the advantages and disadvantages of tall apartment blocks. However, the position is inconsistent; you state you 'strongly agree' in the first paragraph but then 'slightly disagree' in the second. This creates confusion regarding your overall stance. While you provide some relevant points—such as cost-effectiveness, land usage, and accessibility issues for the elderly—the development is somewhat superficial. To improve, ensure your position is clear from the introduction and maintained throughout. Additionally, try to expand on your points with more specific examples or deeper reasoning rather than listing several brief arguments, which makes the essay feel like a collection of ideas rather than a cohesive argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression is hindered by the contradictory stance mentioned earlier. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate; for example, 'Moreever' is misspelled, and 'However' is used incorrectly to introduce a new point rather than a contrast. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the phrase 'another challenging thing is for those who are living in higher floors'. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'on the other hand') and ensure they are used to connect ideas logically rather than just starting sentences.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for basic communication but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on simple, repetitive terms like 'big', 'house', and 'make'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'terrific way' (which is informal and inappropriate for an academic essay) and 'make a lift' (the correct collocation is 'install a lift'). To improve, focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to urban planning and housing, and try to use more sophisticated synonyms to avoid repetition. Spelling errors, such as 'Moreever' and 'lager', also detract from the overall quality of the writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('walk's', 'who has a big family'), article usage ('a average house'), and tense consistency. The sentence 'Because it can be build in low price than making houses' is grammatically incorrect and lacks a main clause. While you attempt complex structures, they are often faulty. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and pay closer attention to pluralisation and verb forms.
