Student answer (Band 5.5)

In large cities it is the best way to build tall apartment blocks for providing enough homes. But in some cases I agree with this statement, but in some cases I disagree with this statement. In this essay I will discuss both statements and why I agree and disagree.

On one hand, I agree with this statement because of building tall apartment blocks because it takes less space and provides the home to more people. Another reason is that when we built a separate home for everyone, then it took more space, and as a result, it caused deforestation because when we built the house, we required more space for this than we cut the tree for building the house, and as a result, the air got polluted. When air gets polluted, it causes global warming, so that is the reason I agree with this statement.

On the other hand, I really disagree with this statement. The reason is that the apartment blocks are not built like that we want. and some time in the apartment block has less space, and the family has more members, so the family survives in a constrained space. Another reason is that in the apartment we can't grow our own garden but in our house we built own garden and parking space and enjoy with the family in the garden and spent time with trees and nature.

In conclusion, I agree because it takes less space and stops the deforestation and air pollution, and i diagree becayse it have conjusted space.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The essay addresses the prompt by discussing both sides of the argument regarding tall apartment blocks. However, the position is not consistently clear; the introduction states the writer agrees and disagrees, and the conclusion simply restates this without a definitive stance. The ideas are relevant but remain somewhat superficial. For instance, the link between deforestation and air pollution is a good starting point but lacks depth or specific examples to fully support the argument. To reach a higher band, you should develop your points with more specific evidence or logical reasoning and maintain a clearer, more consistent position throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive and mechanical. Phrases like 'Another reason is that' and 'as a result' are used frequently, which makes the flow feel a bit stilted. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'the apartment blocks are not built like that we want.' Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents would significantly improve the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'big', 'space', and 'house'. There are also some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'the family survives in a constrained space' and 'conjusted space' (likely a misspelling of 'congested'). To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to urban planning and environmental impact, and pay closer attention to spelling and word formation to ensure your meaning is always clear.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'it have conjusted space'), incorrect tense usage (e.g., 'when we built... we required'), and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'the apartment blocks are not built like that we want'). While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy will be very beneficial.
