Student answer (Band 6.0)

Looking at the current population providing homes to everyone in large cities is possible by building high-rise buildings or apartments. Large cities have become over populated these days this is because large number of people travel to cities due to better facilities and job opportunities. The main issue that arises in urban areas is the lack of enough space to settle down.

The best possible way is to make infrastructure that utilizes less space yet provide better housing facilities. If a large number of houses are build on ground it will create an over crowded city where buildings are just stacked on to one another like a pile of garbage. The single story building take larger land area and are not economical. This idea does not support location with big populations. Big cities are important localities and have international value as well, If not developed well planned it may also have negative effect Internationally.

Big cities should be developed keeping in mind every aspect, It should be visually beautiful, sustainable for larger populations and economical. Building skyscrapers help utilize the space in much efficient way. Big families and larger groups of people can be accommodated in a single building. The high-rise buildings creates artistic feel as well. Another benefit is the cost efficiency, people can rent out apartments much cheaply as compared to the separate housings. Many of the people that are living in the cities are students or the people who have traveled from their villages to find jobs, so it is much convenient for them to rent an apartment.

Building tall apartment blocks is the best idea to handle huge amount of people in small area. These buildings increases the accommodations quantity while reducing the land size and budget. These skyscrapers are capable to provide hundreds of homes to people on just a few square meter space, making it an economical treasure.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of high-rise buildings. The ideas are relevant and generally well-supported, such as the mention of space efficiency and cost-effectiveness. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat repetitive; for instance, the benefits of space and cost are mentioned in multiple paragraphs without significant new depth. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-elaborated point rather than restating the same arguments. The position is consistent throughout, and the conclusion effectively summarizes your stance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Another benefit is' and 'If a large number of houses are build', to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of transition words could be more varied. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the transition between the discussion of urban planning and the aesthetic appeal of skyscrapers. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'infrastructure', 'economical', and 'sustainable'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and awkward phrasing, such as 'stacked on to one another like a pile of garbage' and 'economical treasure', which sound unnatural in an academic context. There are also minor errors in word formation, such as 'build' instead of 'built' and 'creates' instead of 'create' (subject-verb agreement). Expanding your range to include more precise academic collocations would improve this score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include punctuation issues (e.g., comma splices like 'Big cities should be developed keeping in mind every aspect, It should be...'), subject-verb agreement errors ('These buildings increases'), and missing articles ('in small area'). To improve, focus on proofreading for basic sentence structure, particularly ensuring that independent clauses are correctly joined and that subjects and verbs agree in number.
