Student answer (Band 5.5)

The most efficient way to facilitate enough houses in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks.

I completely, agree with this statement because its structure can accommodate a large population and another reason is that it is cheaper and more flexible than homes.

First of all, the structure of apartments is built in such a way so that it can accommodate a lot of people and they are small and flexible in a way that they prevent excessive clutter and the person living in it would only keep necessary items with him or her because the space is already limited and it makes it much easier to move out once they are done with their stay. Modern apartments often provide shared amenities sports facilities, roof top gardens and business centers without upgrading the overall living lifestyle without additional charges.

Secondly, Apartments are often near urban areas or within the city centre surrounded by a lot of facilities like supermarkets, shops, shopping malls and restaurants, schools, colleges and universities and the job centers are all situated in places near apartment blocks . this reduces the fare required for travel and other expenses also get cut by half.

Another point to consider is, the amount of security that these apartments provide to its residents with alot of going on around these apartments day and night it is less likely that someone will break in or steal in that type of environment because of the strict security and a number of other reasons.

In conclusion, Apartments are the right solution to house people in urban cities. These tall buildings provide every nece

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

You have addressed the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of tall apartment blocks. You provided relevant supporting ideas, such as space efficiency, proximity to urban amenities, and security. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the point about 'shared amenities' is mentioned but not fully explored in relation to the broader urban housing crisis. Additionally, the conclusion is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence, which prevents a final summary of your argument. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph contains a fully developed argument with a clear link back to the prompt, and always complete your concluding thoughts.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices like 'First of all', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical. For example, the transition between the idea of 'clutter' and 'shared amenities' in the second paragraph is abrupt. Furthermore, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'without upgrading the overall living lifestyle', which is confusing in context. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'accommodate', 'amenities', and 'urban areas'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'facilitate enough houses' (better: 'provide sufficient housing') and 'upgrading the overall living lifestyle' (which is logically unclear). You also rely on some repetitive phrasing. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and avoid informal phrasing like 'a lot of going on around'. Expanding your vocabulary to include more topic-specific terminology related to urban planning would also be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are frequent errors in punctuation and grammar. For example, there is a comma splice in the introduction ('I completely, agree'), and several sentences lack proper punctuation or contain run-on structures, such as the long sentence in the second paragraph. There are also minor errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage (e.g., 'the amount of security that these apartments provide to its residents'). To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence punctuation and proofreading for small grammatical slips that occur when attempting more complex sentence constructions.
