Student answer (Band 5.0)

IN modern era, Some people think best method to provide residence area in massive cities is to build to tall apartment blocks .

From my prespective this is good way because population is increasing day by day and we don t have enough land to build residencial areas FOR instance when goverment see they don t have enough land for residence they start cutting forest which cause deforstation which can effect the climate of the country . TO stop this goverment should build apartment instead of houses INDVIDUALS Will get enough space to live in cities

HOWEVER, some people think the apartment is bad idea because they think earth quake will destroy these tall buildings because of their sizes and they also say the rent of the apartment is higher than the rent of house a salary person can t afford the apartment if he afford the rent but he cant meet other expences FOR example someone salary is 1000 dollar and apartment rent is 800 dollar how can he meet other expences like insurance . one the main reason people don t like apartment because they think a big family cannot live in apartment because they have not much enough space for example a family consist of six members cannot even fit in larger apartment because a larger apartment consist of five rooms

in summary . from my point of view this is good to build apartment in larger cities to get enough space but some people they are costly and expensive to live in apartments

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the advantages and disadvantages of tall apartment blocks. However, the position is not consistently clear throughout the essay. While you provide reasons for both sides, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding deforestation is relevant but lacks a strong link to why tall buildings are the 'best' solution compared to other urban planning strategies. Furthermore, the conclusion is weak and does not clearly restate your final position, as it merely summarizes the points mentioned without providing a definitive stance. To improve, ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that your final conclusion synthesizes your arguments to support your overall opinion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is frequently interrupted by poor sentence structure and a lack of cohesive devices. Transitions between ideas are often missing or mechanical, such as the abrupt shift between the benefits and drawbacks. The use of referencing is also unclear at times, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of your argument. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'on the other hand') to connect your ideas more smoothly. Additionally, ensure that each paragraph focuses on a single main idea to improve the overall structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, which restricts your ability to express complex ideas. You rely on basic terms like 'good way', 'bad idea', and 'big family'. There are also several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'residence area' instead of 'residential area' and 'salary person' instead of 'low-income earner'. Spelling errors, such as 'prespective', 'goverment', 'deforstation', and 'INDVIDUALS', are frequent and occasionally distract the reader. To reach a higher band, you should focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to urban planning and housing, and practice using synonyms to avoid repetition.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement, missing articles (e.g., 'the government', 'the apartment'), and incorrect punctuation. Sentence structures are predominantly simple, and attempts at complex sentences are often marred by errors, such as 'when goverment see they don t have enough land... they start cutting forest which cause deforstation'. The lack of proper capitalization and erratic spacing also affects the readability of the text. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb tenses and the use of articles, before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
