Student answer (Band 6.0)
In this contemporary society, this has become the subject of debate whether to construct tall buildings consisting of several apartments or to build single story houses to provide sufficient homes to citizens in populated cities. Tall buildings can be extremely beneficial for the individuals; however, this concept has numerous pros and cons. I firmly agree that this can be the ideal way to protect the safety of people. This essay will elucidate a plethora of advantages and some drawbacks of this idea.
Firstly, constructing skyscrapers with a substantial number of apartments can be extremely advantageous. This way not only provides economical prosperity but also a tranquil environment for residing. This method can be advantageous to society as well. They can build a close-knit relation by living together in the same building. The government can set aside some space for new centers in lieu of constructing single story houses. To illustrate, a few acres of land can be used to build several schools or other educational institutions.
Contrarily, the drawbacks of this method can outweigh its benefits. In case of climate changes, the tall building can be affected in hazardous ways. They can be diminished by just a small earthquake and the whole building will be falling apart. The safety of people is in danger and we should scrutinize this crisis. For instance, there is a greater risk to buildings due to the repercussions of a flood.
From my perspective, construction of buildings solely is not an epitome of resolving this issue. Buildings with safety precautions can be helpful for the safety of residents.
To conclude, it depends on constructors regarding how they protect the people and their safety. The negligence of them can jeopardize the lives of citizens.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt, but the development of ideas is inconsistent. While you state a clear position in the introduction, the arguments are somewhat superficial. For example, the point about 'economical prosperity' is mentioned but not explained or supported with specific evidence. The counter-argument regarding safety is relevant, but the claim that buildings can be 'diminished' by a small earthquake is an over-generalization that lacks logical depth. To reach a higher band, ensure that each main point is supported by a clear explanation and a concrete example that directly relates to the prompt's focus on urban housing.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Contrarily', and 'To conclude' to signal transitions. However, the logical progression within paragraphs is sometimes weak. For instance, the transition between the benefits of tall buildings and the mention of 'close-knit relations' feels abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the use of 'this' in the opening sentence without a clear antecedent. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring each sentence flows naturally from the previous one would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary, including terms like 'contemporary society', 'elucidate', 'hazardous', and 'repercussions'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and awkward collocations. For example, saying buildings can be 'diminished' by an earthquake is not the correct usage; 'damaged' or 'destroyed' would be more accurate. Similarly, 'construction of buildings solely is not an epitome of resolving this issue' is stylistically unnatural. To improve, focus on using vocabulary that fits the specific context of urban planning and structural engineering more precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, some contain grammatical errors that slightly impede clarity, such as 'this has become the subject of debate whether to construct...' and 'The negligence of them can jeopardize...'. There are also minor issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentence structures are grammatically sound.
