Student answer (Band 6.0)
The greatest way to give enough houses in urban cities is to construct larger apartment blocks
In larger cities population is increased as compared to rural areas so people demanding more homes in major cities. one major advantage of building tall residential building is that they can accommodate more people. land in major cities is extremely expensive so building tall apartments helps in affordability. Another benefit is that high rise developments can make public services and transportation more efficient. when larger number of residents live in the same area, Government can provide major facilities such a schools, hospitals and convenient stores etc. People living in the apartments are often closer to working areas which can help to reduce traffic congestions. instead of using larger area of land to build individual houses a high rise building can provide hundred of houses on the same piece of land.
However, relying on taller buildings also caused disadvantages. High density housing can lead to overcrowding, they can also lead to sustainable problems a lack of green spaces and high pressure on infrastructure. Moreover, some people prefer homes with private outdoor areas particularly families with children. so instead of completely relying on big apartments government should provide more affordable housing projects.
In conclusion, I strongly agree that constructing tall apartment blocks is the most effective ways to address housing shortages in larger cities because it makes efficient use of limited land. But I believe that a combination of tall apartments and other types of housing is more practical and sustainable approach.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, presenting a clear position that supports high-rise buildings while acknowledging the need for a balanced approach. The ideas are relevant, such as land efficiency and infrastructure benefits, though some points, like 'sustainable problems', are slightly underdeveloped. The argument is consistent throughout, and the conclusion effectively synthesizes the main points. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more specific examples or deeper analysis for each point, rather than listing several benefits briefly. Overall, the task is addressed well, and the position is maintained clearly from start to finish.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the advantages and disadvantages. Cohesive devices such as 'Another benefit', 'However', and 'Moreover' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and punctuation, such as the lack of a full stop after the first sentence. The progression of ideas is generally smooth, but the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking phrases to connect sentences more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing for clear communication of ideas. You use some topic-specific terms like 'high density housing', 'infrastructure', and 'housing shortages'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'sustainable problems' instead of 'sustainability issues' and 'working areas' instead of 'workplaces'. The range is sufficient to convey your meaning, but it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing like 'major cities' and 'larger'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the Government', 'a high rise building'), pluralization ('hundred of houses'), and subject-verb agreement ('population is increased'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing periods and capitalization errors. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. You should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, specifically regarding articles and noun-verb agreement, to ensure your complex sentences are error-free.
