Student answer (Band 5.0)

In fast-paced life, to settle the large population, the better direction is to build large apartment blocks to maintain the accommodation for people. I largely agree with this notion and this essay will highlight the phenomenon.

There are several reasons for this extent. The first and foremost, building large apartment block is better to consume small area and build shelter for people in cities where people always worry for accommodation. For example, capital Delhi is a metropolitan city and one of the congested city, where people always willing to have their own apartment. So, due to this large builder now build large tall flats. Moreover, nowadays properties such as homes, apartments and flats are to expensive to buy. As a result, it is best way to build in tall blocks.

Another justification of this extent is that building such apartments contain many risk factors. For instance, last year in china, many building blocks were crash due to earthquake. Although, these buildings are secured and safe because they are covered with security cameras and guards with maximize the security into next level yet the risk of fire hazard will also be raised after constructed horizontal blocks.

In the light of above discussion, it is fair and justifiable to say that making such blocks have a lot of benefits as they consume less land and it also perfect of big cities to live large families in a single roof. As people need roof for their family in the extent.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt but fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which negatively impacts the score. While you establish a clear position in the introduction, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the second paragraph mentions the cost of housing but does not fully explain why tall blocks are the most effective solution compared to other urban planning strategies. The third paragraph is confusing; it attempts to discuss risks but contradicts itself by mentioning safety features, making the argument difficult to follow. To improve, ensure each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed point that directly supports your thesis.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive start. However, the logical progression of ideas is often hampered by awkward phrasing and unclear transitions. For example, the phrase 'Another justification of this extent' is non-standard and confusing. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often mechanical or misused, such as the transition 'Although... yet' in the third paragraph, which creates a redundant structure. To improve, focus on using linking words more naturally and ensure that each sentence flows logically from the previous one to create a more cohesive argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'large', 'build', and 'people' throughout the essay. There are also several instances of incorrect word choice or collocation, such as 'consume small area' (should be 'occupy less space') and 'crash due to earthquake' (should be 'collapsed'). The phrase 'maximize the security into next level' is also unnatural. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise academic vocabulary and collocations, such as 'urban density', 'infrastructure', or 'cost-effective solutions', rather than repeating simple descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('many building blocks were crash'), article usage ('one of the congested city'), and prepositional errors. Sentence structure is often fragmented or awkward, such as 'it also perfect of big cities to live large families in a single roof.' To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like pluralization and verb tense consistency before attempting more complex structures.
