Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position in favor of tall apartment blocks. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention reasons such as population growth and the need for housing, the arguments are repetitive and lack depth. For instance, you mention 'better healthcare' and 'education' multiple times without explaining how tall buildings specifically facilitate these services beyond simply housing people. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific examples or counter-arguments to demonstrate a more nuanced understanding of urban planning challenges.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks paragraphing, which is essential for a clear structure in an IELTS Task 2 response. The ideas are presented in a single block, making the progression difficult to follow. While there are some cohesive devices used, such as 'Because of this' and 'So', they are often used repetitively or at the start of almost every sentence, which makes the flow feel mechanical. To improve, you should organize your essay into clear paragraphs: an introduction, two body paragraphs with distinct points, and a conclusion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'big cities', 'problems', and 'better'. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'oppertunities', 'opertunities', and 'nessacity', which detract from the overall quality. To improve, you should aim to use a wider range of topic-specific vocabulary related to urban development, such as 'high-density housing', 'urbanization', 'infrastructure', or 'sustainable development', and ensure you check your spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the tall apartments blocks'), subject-verb agreement, and word forms ('live there life' instead of 'live their lives'). While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of complex sentence structures and the persistence of basic errors limit the score. To improve, focus on using a variety of complex sentences (using 'although', 'whereas', or 'consequently') and proofread to correct basic errors in articles and pronouns.
