Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is often argued that the most effective way to provide sufficient housing in large cities is to construct tall buildings for apartments. I largely agree with this view, because high rise buildings can accommodate large number of people while using limited land. However, other housing schemes are also important.
The main advantage of building tall apartments is that they make sufficient use of limited land. In urban areas population is increased day by day and there is no sufficient place for building new houses as well as rates are too much higher for the land, therefor middle class cannot afford to buy land for making their own accommodation. By constructing multi-storey buildings. hundreds of families can live in the same area. As a result urban authorities can provide more homes without expanding cities into surrounding rural areas. Many students can get benefits from these apartments because theses are affordable comparing to houses. For example, cities such as London and Sydney have many high rise buildings because land is expensive.
However, I believe that high-rise apartments should not be the only solution. Some people prefer living in houses with gardens and open environment, particularly families with children. Moreover if too many tall buildings constructed in one area, they can create problems such as traffic congestion, overcrowding and pressure on public services. Therefore, governments should also develop low-rise housing projects in suitable areas with low prices, as well as improve transport links between cities.
In conclusion, I largely agree that tall apartments are the best way to provide enough homes in large cities. Nevertheless, a combination of low-rise housing would be more practical and sustainable solution.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all parts of the prompt and maintained a clear position throughout. Your argument is well-structured, acknowledging the benefits of high-rise buildings while also providing a balanced counter-argument regarding the need for diverse housing options. The ideas are relevant and supported by examples, such as the mention of London and Sydney. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting points are fully developed; for instance, you could elaborate further on how 'public services' are specifically impacted by high-density living to add more depth to your analysis.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Moreover', and 'Therefore' to link your ideas effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. To improve, try to vary your cohesive devices further and ensure that referencing (e.g., 'these' referring back to 'apartments') is always precise to avoid any ambiguity in your arguments.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'accommodation', 'congestion', and 'sustainable'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'rates are too much higher' (should be 'prices are much higher') and 'make sufficient use' (should be 'make efficient use'). To achieve a higher score, focus on using more precise academic collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. Expanding your vocabulary to include more sophisticated synonyms for common words will also help elevate your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this level. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'large number of people' (should be 'a large number of people'), 'therefor' (spelling error), and 'if too many tall buildings constructed' (missing auxiliary verb 'are'). While these errors are present, they do not impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences will help you move toward a higher band.
