Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, a huge number of people migrated from rural areas to urban centers in different countries of the world and this leads to the overpopulation in the main cities. Many people argue that constructing multi storey vertically long buildings can be the best solution to tackle this problem of limited houses in cities to provide shelters to all migrants. I completely agree that it is a highly beneficial in multiple aspects.

First of all, an increasing population in urban centers is truly a urgent problem and to provide all the citizens with shelter is necessary and needs a lot of space. One of the best solution can be the construction of tall apartments blocks, which requires a very little space and can accomdate a large number of citizens. As a result we do not need to cut the forests to meet the requirement of space in cities, which will leads to the preservation of natural resocurces. Thus, this aspect has potential to make this development a positive one.

Moreover, government can sale these apartments at lower prices due to low construction cost, which will also help migrants to stay and adjust in the cities with low expenditures. For eaxample, a person, who just came to city to improve his lifestyle and earn a good living, does not have enough money to afford luxury accomodation. He can stay in it for a certain time and can spend his limited money on other necessacities like medication and good schooling for his children.

To conclude, undeniably, construction of long buildings might have some drawbacks too, such as confined space but the benefits it brings in term of preservation of forests and cheap prices are enough to make it positive development.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of tall apartment blocks. The ideas are relevant, focusing on space efficiency and economic benefits for migrants. However, the development is somewhat limited; while the points are clear, they could be extended with more specific examples or deeper analysis. For instance, the mention of 'natural resources' is a good point, but it remains a general assertion. The conclusion acknowledges a counter-argument, which helps in presenting a balanced view, though the discussion of drawbacks is brief. Overall, the response meets the requirements of the task well, providing a clear argument throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, such as space efficiency or economic affordability. Cohesive devices like 'First of all', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing could be more sophisticated. For example, the link between the first and second body paragraphs could be smoother. Despite these minor issues, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow, and paragraphing is used appropriately.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'overpopulation' and 'expenditures'. However, there are several spelling errors ('accomdate', 'resocurces', 'eaxample', 'necessacities') and some awkward word choices, such as 'vertically long buildings' instead of 'high-rise buildings'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precision and better proofreading. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring accurate spelling of academic vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'it is a highly beneficial' (article error), 'which will leads to' (subject-verb agreement), and 'government can sale' (incorrect verb form). While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding the message. The range of structures is sufficient to convey the argument, but the frequency of minor errors prevents a higher score. Improving control over articles, verb forms, and subject-verb agreement will significantly enhance the quality of the writing.
