Student answer (Band 5.5)
In large cities, tall apartments blocks are construct to provide enough homes. This is a good topic to discuss about the tall apartments that are build in every city. There are many benefits of this act like conserve space and many more. This has both positive and negative impacts. In this essay we will discuss about the benefits and side effects also.
In first, constructing tall apartments is a very good choice, because with this act we can save place for more buildings and homes. An apartment provides the residents all the facility like bedrooms, washrooms, laundry, balcony and all the space that a house provides. Moreover, in living in a apartment you can stay connect to your neighbors and many relatives that live near you. Furthermore, existing in an apartment can save your cost to construct you own home.
In addition, this is also have many negative impacts on us and our society. At the first rank, overcrowding is the main reason. when many people take place in a building then this cause should be happen. Additionally, when the overcrowding occurs there could be another problem and that is lack of facility. Sometimes, you could not able to get all facilities like water, electricity, gas and many more. Another bad effect is privacy issue.
In conclusion, this has bad and good impacts also. But in my opinion, I will prefer to having own home, because in your house you can stay with rest of all problems. you don't any need to worry about the privacy, lack of facility and overcrowding.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The essay addresses the prompt by discussing the benefits and drawbacks of tall apartment blocks. However, the position is not consistently clear; while the introduction mentions both sides, the conclusion leans towards preferring a private home without fully reconciling this with the initial prompt about city planning. The ideas are relevant but remain somewhat superficial. For instance, the point about 'lack of facility' is mentioned but not well-developed with specific examples or logical depth. To reach a higher band, you should ensure your position is clearly stated in the introduction and maintained throughout, while providing more detailed explanations for each supporting point.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'In first' and 'At the first rank'. These phrases do not sound natural in academic English. Furthermore, the progression of ideas within paragraphs is sometimes disjointed. For example, the transition between discussing apartment facilities and the cost of building a home is abrupt. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words (e.g., using 'Firstly', 'Furthermore', 'Consequently') would significantly improve the flow and logical progression of your arguments.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There is frequent repetition of basic words like 'good', 'bad', and 'many'. Some word choices are unnatural or incorrect, such as 'this act' to refer to construction, 'take place in a building' instead of 'occupy a building', and 'side effects' which is typically used in medical contexts rather than urban planning. To improve, focus on learning collocations related to urban development and housing, and try to use more specific academic vocabulary to express your ideas with greater clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('apartments blocks are construct', 'this is also have'), incorrect verb forms ('are build'), and missing articles or prepositions ('in a apartment', 'stay connect'). Additionally, there are punctuation and phrasing errors, such as 'you don't any need to worry'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for basic errors is essential.
