Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of tall apartment blocks. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention space efficiency and budget, the arguments lack depth and specific supporting evidence. The example regarding the University of Paris is vague, and the point about Portugal is somewhat disconnected from the main argument about tall buildings. To achieve a higher band, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations and concrete examples that directly support your stance. The conclusion is also a bit repetitive and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate. For instance, the transition 'Then' at the start of the second body paragraph is not the most natural choice for introducing a new argument. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences can feel disjointed. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in addition') to create smoother transitions between your ideas and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. There are several spelling errors, such as 'appartments', 'peple', 'accomodation', 'accordibg', 'funadamental', and 'intension', which occur frequently. These errors occasionally distract the reader. You rely on basic vocabulary and struggle with collocations. To improve, focus on learning the correct spelling of common academic terms and try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms to express your ideas more precisely. For example, instead of 'good step', use 'a viable solution' or 'a sustainable approach'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of your writing. Issues include missing articles (e.g., 'important part of population'), subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'every country take into account'), and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'everyone need to have follow some instructions'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent. To improve, pay closer attention to basic grammar rules, particularly verb forms and article usage. Proofreading your work for these common errors before finishing will significantly improve your score.
