Student answer (Band 6.0)

Rapid urbanization increases housing shortages in major cities, while some individuals believe that it could be tackled by building high-rise apartments. I partially agree with this, as it provides best utilization of small lands, on the similar hand it also has major drawbacks which I mentioned below paragraphs.

The first and foremost drawback regarding this, sometime it could be impossible to exacuvate the upper floors of high-rise buildings in natural disaster conditions and it could be time consuming, as, people can lose their lives in such incidents and these types of high residental areas are crowded and give lack of privacy . For instance, recently nearly about thousands of people lost their lives in nepal flood and about roughly 4238 of individuals were unaccounted declared by nepal government.

On the other hand, government can make proper use of less space lands by making tower buildings which make cheaper for residents to pay rent rather than buy expensive urban homes. Apart from this, people can easily commute to their destinations such as offices, hospitals, schools as well as malls that are located near to these kind if high-rise apartments. Moreover, many cultural activities are performed in these type of blocks as people can gain knowledge of different religions even stronger their bond with their neighbors.

In conclusion, while, tall apartments can address to home shortage, create stronger bond towards neighbors and provide knowledge about varities of cultures but it also provide bad impact on the people's lives as they can lose their privacy and their lives sometime in the condition of natural disaster.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the benefits and drawbacks of high-rise apartments. While a position is stated in the introduction, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The argument regarding natural disasters is a bit tangential and the example provided (Nepal floods) is not directly linked to the structural failure of high-rise buildings, which weakens the logical development. The points about convenience and community are relevant but could be expanded with more specific detail to reach a higher band. Overall, the response covers the requirements of the task but lacks depth in the supporting arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression from the introduction to the body paragraphs and conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'on the similar hand' and 'these type of blocks'. Referencing is generally clear, but the transition between ideas within paragraphs could be smoother. The structure is sufficient to follow the writer's argument, but it lacks the sophisticated flow required for higher bands.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, but there are several instances of imprecise word choice and spelling errors, such as 'exacuvate' (evacuate), 'residental' (residential), and 'varities' (varieties). The student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'urbanization' and 'high-rise', but the range is somewhat limited. Some phrases are unnatural, such as 'less space lands' and 'address to home shortage'. Improving precision and correcting spelling would significantly enhance this score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('these type of blocks'), article usage, and awkward phrasing ('it could be time consuming, as, people can lose their lives'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of errors is noticeable and occasionally distracts the reader. A greater focus on sentence construction and proofreading for basic errors is recommended.
