To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The good option to give housing in large urban areas is to build tall apartment blocks. I agree with this statement because large cities are overpopulated, and also in today's world the property prices are too high. In this essay I will discuss how this could be beneficial.

In large cities there are large number of company offices are located and a lot of peoples are come from the out of station in search of jobs, a good living standard and some for their childrens education. Moreover, there is not enough space to build a separate homes for everyone. For example, In New York, London or Beijing there is a lot of people living over there and also people come from other cities so they become over crowded. Therefore, that is best solution to build a multistory apartment buildings to provide shelter to everyone. It is easier for everyone to stay get their home once apartment and it also covers less space as well.

Another reason to agree with this statement is that nowaday property prices are skyrocketing and it is difficult for some to buy a property and build their own home. For example, in New York, Melbourne or Ontario where the property sector is too high as skyrocketing. Consequently, in these cities for middle class families who are living hand to mouth for them to buy a property and build their own is too much so these apartment's are alternate of these houses and at lower possible prices and for middle class family to stay at their own home rather than at the renting home.

In conclusion, I agree with this statement because nowadays property prices are high and large cities are overpopulated. Therefore, to provide separate home to everyone is not possible so that's the best alternate own a personal and affordable house.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. While you mention population density and property prices, the arguments are not fully extended with sophisticated reasoning or nuanced analysis. For instance, the discussion on 'middle-class families' is relevant but remains surface-level. To reach a higher band, you should focus on exploring the implications of high-rise living—such as social interaction, infrastructure demands, or environmental impact—rather than simply restating that prices are high. The response is sufficient for the task, but the supporting points need more analytical weight to move beyond a Band 6 level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a central theme. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Moreover,' 'Therefore,' and 'In conclusion' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear (e.g., 'it also covers less space as well'). The progression of ideas is generally logical, but the internal structure of the paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of cohesive markers to create a smoother transition between your points. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the overall cohesion lacks the flexibility required for a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'urban areas,' 'overpopulated,' and 'skyrocketing.' However, there is a reliance on basic or repetitive phrasing, such as 'good option,' 'large number,' and 'a lot of.' There are also some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'out of station' (which is not standard English) and 'alternate of these houses' (should be 'alternative to'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and avoid informal or redundant expressions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('a lot of peoples are come'), incorrect article usage, and awkward phrasing ('stay get their home'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly pluralization and verb tense consistency. Increasing your use of error-free complex sentences will help you move up the band scale, as currently, the frequency of errors limits your score.
