Student answer (Band 5.5)
In recent years, the best way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks has become a widely discussed issue in many societies. While some people disagree this statement, I agree that if provided enough homes in large cities by building tall apartment block. This is mainly because people can stop cutting down the trees in larger areas by building individual houses & the other reason is the pollution coming by building individual houses can be significantly reduced to some extent, both which have important consequences for individual and society.
The strong reason for my position is that by cutting down the trees to expand land usage. This is largely because while expanding the cities people destroy land for construction, by whcih it further leads to destroying the natural vegetation and further in to act of deforestation .When deforestation is caused to increases global warming, which directly is harmful for the environment. In practical term this means development but development should not come at the cost of destroying nature. For examples, considering a situation in Bangalore where the lakes are dried up to bulid buildings through illegal occupation, which later resulted in flood directing into those building during the monsoon season. Therefore, the everyday experience strongly supports this view.
After which the pollution, which deserve even more atention beacuse pollution is daily matter. When building individual houses there are more debris and lot of other wastes ,as result which leads more even pollution. Also the construction noise, dust coming of building, consumption of more water for construction. Which leads neagative impacts on society. This further prvides justificaion for my opinion.
In conclusion, I agree that best way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks. The main reasons are deforestion in expanding the land for the homes & the pollution caused by the constructing individual hoese

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. While you mention deforestation and pollution, the arguments are not fully extended. For instance, the link between individual houses and pollution is asserted rather than explained with strong logical evidence. The conclusion is also quite brief and merely restates the introduction without synthesising the main points effectively. To improve, ensure each body paragraph focuses on a distinct, well-supported argument that directly relates to the prompt's core question about urban housing solutions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is often disrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. You use some cohesive devices like 'Therefore' and 'In conclusion', but they are sometimes used incorrectly or in a way that feels forced. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the connection between the Bangalore example and the main argument is slightly disjointed. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally into the next will help improve the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'pollution coming by building' and 'daily matter'. You rely on basic vocabulary and repeat terms like 'individual houses' and 'building' frequently. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms and topic-specific collocations, such as 'urban sprawl', 'high-density residential developments', or 'environmental degradation', and ensure you use them in the correct context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include incorrect verb forms ('pollution, which deserve even more atention'), missing articles, and punctuation errors, such as the lack of spaces after commas. Some sentences are fragmented or run-on, which affects the clarity of your message. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and proofreading for punctuation and spelling errors. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining accuracy will also help raise your score.
