To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Yes i strongly agree with this statement, because the smart way to provide plenty of living space in large regions is to construct tall apartments.
The first reason is that due to high population in many nations their is lack of homes for the people to live due to this citizens start building illegal homes on roadsides, so to avoid this authorities should build tall building instead of bungalows or mansions which will help to provide housing space to many citizens in a small place.
Additionally the second reason is that if people start living in apartments they will follow rules and regulations properly they will take care of each other and government can provide them proper security and this will help in enhancing the infrastructure of the cities which will look better, if people do not have proper home they will start living in public areas which is illegal and that will affect the beauty of nation, so to avoid this the people should start making apartments and provide living area on rental basis or they can sell flats which will help both of them.
Moreover, in apartments people should live in a peaceful manner and take care of each other and keep in mind that due there actions on other people should get hurt.
In conclusion, apartments is the best way to provide housing space in big cities because apartments can be built on small places due to that it will provide space to many families instead of one family.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of tall apartment blocks. However, the development of ideas is limited. The arguments regarding 'illegal homes' and 'infrastructure' are somewhat repetitive and lack depth. The essay relies on generalizations rather than providing specific, well-supported examples. The final paragraph is quite brief and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations and concrete evidence, ensuring that each paragraph contributes uniquely to your overall argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is somewhat mechanical. While some cohesive devices are used (e.g., 'The first reason', 'Additionally', 'Moreover', 'In conclusion'), they are used in a formulaic way. The transition between ideas is sometimes abrupt, and the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks logical flow. For instance, the second paragraph jumps between illegal housing, infrastructure, and the beauty of the nation without a clear, unified focus. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. Phrases such as 'provide plenty of living space', 'build tall building', and 'provide housing space' are used frequently. There is little attempt to use less common or more sophisticated vocabulary. Furthermore, there are some word choice errors, such as 'due there actions' instead of 'due to their actions'. To improve, you should aim to incorporate a wider range of topic-specific vocabulary and synonyms to avoid repetition and demonstrate a more precise command of language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While there are some attempts at complex sentences, they are often marred by grammatical errors, such as 'their is lack of homes' (should be 'there is a lack of homes') and 'apartments is the best way' (subject-verb agreement error). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several run-on sentences and missing commas. The frequency of these errors occasionally impedes the flow of reading. To achieve a higher score, you need to focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles and prepositions.
