Student answer (Band 6.0)

Without any iota of doubt, homes have been an important part of our lives since time immemorial. The better solution to complete the need of accommodation in urban areas is to construct high rise buildings. Before coming to the conclusion, I would like to shed light on points for agreement and disagreement with given statement.

Apparently, there are countless points for agreement with given statement, but the major one is that tall blocks are good for ecosystem also. To explain it more, while building new houses most of the people cut forests because there is lack of space in mega cities, this mainly leads to deforestation and global warming because most of area in cities are occupied by roads, malls and factories. However, if people start constructing high rise buildings they can use how much they want and sell or give rest of the building on rent. Moreover, in this way, this idea also becomes of side income from tenants.

Furthermore, there are a lot f points for disagreement with this, but the main one is that tall buildings are not safe in natural disasters. To justify it more, height of these types of buildings is very high, which is very risky during natural disasters like earthquake, flood and drought. Because, usually in earthquake the surface of earth vibrates, during these conditions many buildings destroys. So, that's why this is not safe place to live. For example, if a fire breaks out, residents may have to use emergency staircase because lifts can become unsafe. This can delay evacuation and make it harder for firefighters to rescue people.

In conclusion, there are both positives and negatives of this. It depends on public, which face they adapt. It is good because it provide side income from tenants, however, in case of emergency it is very dangerous.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both sides of the argument regarding high-rise buildings. However, the position is not consistently maintained; the introduction states the writer will discuss both sides, but the conclusion fails to take a clear stance, merely stating that it 'depends on public'. The development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument about deforestation is relevant, but the explanation regarding 'side income' is not fully developed in the context of urban planning. To improve, ensure that your position is clearly stated in the introduction and consistently supported throughout the body paragraphs, leading to a definitive conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore', 'However', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'To explain it more' and 'To justify it more'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the conclusion where the pronoun 'it' is used without a clear antecedent. The progression of ideas is generally logical, but the connection between the points could be smoother to achieve a higher band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks sophistication. There are some instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'complete the need of accommodation' instead of 'meet the demand for housing' and 'side income' which is slightly informal. Some phrasing is repetitive, and there are minor errors in collocation, such as 'many buildings destroys' (should be 'are destroyed'). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and collocations related to urban development and infrastructure, while ensuring that word choices are natural and contextually appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Examples include 'most of area in cities are occupied' (should be 'most of the area'), 'a lot f points' (spelling error), and 'it provide side income' (subject-verb agreement error). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and punctuation prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
