Student answer (Band 6.5)

In today's world, the population has been increasing tremendously due to which the problems related to shortage of housing area is rising day-by-day. Nowadays, government is leading more towards encouraging the society to construct buildings over residential houses to resolve this issue by allowing them to build taller apartments with appropriate security measures and regulations. I strongly agree with the given view and my inclination will be elucidated in the following paragraphs.

The main advantage of tall apartment blocks is that they can accommodate a large number of people without using vast amount of land. Nowadays, the pricings of land is increasing significantly due to over-population in large cities. As a result, the common public is facing financial burden but living in apartment blocks is comparatively cheaper and more suitable as the welfare facilities are available at less distance. For example, cities like Singapore have successfully used high-rise housing blocks to accommodate large population.

In addition to this, government builds the public transportation, parks, school and shopping centers near the location of higher population ratio and it makes it feasible to live in the apartment blocks which reduces the travelling distance, expense and traffic congestion. For instance, according to the survey taken by government in Bangalore people living in buildings face less financial burden compared with them who prefer living in private housing.

Moreover, I largely believe constructing more high-rises is efficient and pocket friendly both for the society as nowadays there are multiple facilities included for residents of the apartment from healthcare to entertainment whereas people who prefer living in private homes have to spend money on travel expense, enjoying the facilities like gym, library, game centers and more

In conclusion, I support the view that building apartment blocks is more efficient way to address housing shortage problem in large cities which reserves a lot

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. The arguments regarding land efficiency, infrastructure proximity, and cost-effectiveness are relevant and well-supported with examples like Singapore and Bangalore. However, the conclusion is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence, which prevents a full summary of the argument. While the ideas are well-developed, the lack of a finished conclusion slightly impacts the overall task completion. The response covers all parts of the task well, but the abrupt ending keeps it from reaching the highest band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a (partial) conclusion. Each paragraph focuses on a central theme, such as land efficiency or infrastructure. Cohesive devices like 'In addition to this', 'For instance', and 'Moreover' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, the abrupt ending of the final sentence disrupts the flow and cohesion of the concluding paragraph. Despite this, the progression of ideas remains clear throughout the majority of the text, and paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate and appropriate for the task. You use some good collocations such as 'financial burden', 'traffic congestion', and 'housing shortage'. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'pricings of land' (should be 'price of land') and 'construct buildings over residential houses' (which is slightly confusing phrasing). While you attempt to use a range of vocabulary, it is mostly functional rather than sophisticated. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic terminology and avoid repetitive phrasing like 'living in' or 'people who prefer'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'the problems related to shortage of housing area is rising' (subject-verb agreement error: 'problems... are') and 'compared with them who prefer' (should be 'those who prefer'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and article errors throughout. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing the variety of complex structures and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would significantly enhance your grammatical accuracy.
