Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response addresses the prompt but fails to maintain a clear position. The introduction states the essay will discuss 'both views', which is inappropriate for a 'to what extent do you agree or disagree' task. The arguments provided are often irrelevant or unclear, such as the mention of 'kitties parties' or the confusing discussion about tax and prison in the second body paragraph. These points do not directly address the core issue of whether tall apartment blocks are the best solution for housing shortages in large cities. The ideas are largely underdeveloped and lack logical connection to the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is weak. While some cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'Furthermore' are used, they are often placed incorrectly or used to introduce irrelevant information. The referencing is frequently unclear, such as in the phrase 'they live alone at their which is unwanted for their', where the pronouns lack clear antecedents. The overall structure is mechanical, and the lack of a coherent argument makes the essay difficult to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary is very limited and often repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'provide the enough space for more activities their' and 'open the apartment blocks as a income source'. The student struggles to use precise terminology related to urban planning or housing. Many phrases are awkward or grammatically incorrect, which hinders the reader's ability to understand the intended meaning. A wider range of vocabulary is needed to express complex ideas effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'it provide'), incorrect word order, and missing articles. Sentence structures are predominantly simple and often fragmented. Complex structures are attempted but are almost always inaccurate, such as 'few people pay tax on without registration property which is against the law'. Punctuation is also problematic, with spaces appearing before commas and periods throughout the text.
