Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent times, houses play significant role in individuals lives. A group of people believe that, tall buildings are most suitable option to provide accommodation to the city people. However, others argue that, buildings have demerits. In my opinion, I totally agree with the topic that megacities have tiny places to build houses and the number of population is more as compare land.
The fundamental reason for my inclination is that, there are enormous advantages of multi-story buildings. First and foremost, the tall buildings are required less space, because these types of buildings have less width. In addition to this, megacities have not only congested areas, but also they are more expensive. As a consequence, builders mostly prefer to construct horizontal buildings rather than vertical buildings. Additionally, those types of modern apartments are more attractive as well as more residents can live . To cite an example, as per the survey of Times of India, in 2015, Mumbai, which is one of the most busiest cities and has a 2.5 million population. Indian higher authorities should make various types of tall buildings to fulfil the requirement of houses.
Furthermore, another reason is, there are a wide range of people notice in the cities. Due to the overpopulation, many individuals cannot afford raw houses in the urban areas, because the price of the raw houses is comparatively higher. As a result, most of the city people would like prefer to live in flats instead of vertical buildings. Moreover, these buildings provide a large amount of amenities; such as, small theatre and children playing area.
Conversely, we can not ignore the second view of the people, there are few drawbacks to live in multi-story buildings. Firstly, tall buildings are difficult for the old age people. Secondly, sometimes individuals are facing problems with their neighbours.
To conclude, there are a bunch of benefits of the tall buildings. The government should not only focus on the improvement of the economy, but also focus on multi-story buildings as well. Ultimately, this development has also an impact on the economy of the city.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. For instance, the argument regarding 'horizontal' versus 'vertical' buildings is confusing, as the student seems to mix up the terminology, which weakens the logic. While the example of Mumbai is relevant, it is not fully developed to support the argument effectively. The conclusion is a bit repetitive and does not fully synthesize the main points. To reach a higher band, ensure that arguments are logically consistent and that examples are explained in greater detail to demonstrate their relevance to the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'First and foremost', 'In addition to this', and 'Conversely'. However, some of these are used mechanically or inappropriately, such as the transition into the second paragraph. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the final paragraph where the connection between the economy and tall buildings is vague. The progression of ideas is generally logical, but the flow between sentences could be smoother to improve the overall readability of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there is a lack of precision and some awkward collocations. Phrases like 'raw houses' are not standard English, and the misuse of 'horizontal' instead of 'vertical' indicates a lack of control over topic-specific vocabulary. While the student attempts to use some academic phrasing, the range is somewhat limited and repetitive. To improve, focus on using more precise terminology related to urban planning and housing, and ensure that words are used in their correct context to avoid confusion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'houses play significant role' (missing article), 'the number of population is more as compare land' (incorrect preposition and comparative structure), and 'tall buildings are required less space' (incorrect passive voice). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. Increasing the variety of error-free complex sentences and proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage would significantly improve the score.
