Student answer (Band 6.0)

Construction of heighted buildings in order to provide residential homes for individuals in bigger cities is the only way to cope with the shortage of homes in large cities. I completely agree to this statement as bigger cities has less area to accommodate growing number of people in cities.

As the population is rapidly increasing in bigger cities of the world because people are trying to move there in order to explore more opportunities regarding education and employment. For example if we take example of some bigger cities of the world like London, Paris and Chicago. These are facing difficulties with challenging number of population. Area is being lesser to accommodate huge number of families all around the world. But people kept continuously moving to that cities which are creating issues. So the idea of wider range of homes in societies is not convenient.

Due to increasing number of individuals it is better to make taller building blocks which consists of a significant number of apartments or flats that would be more reliable to provide houses for huge number of families. Taller building blocks can be constructed on lesser area but provide a bigger proportion of homes for families which may also be beneficial in terms of rents for people and budget for property dealers. It will also become feasible for families to live in apartments that has own benefits.

So it is concluded that, the most reliable way to provide housing for huge amount of people in bigger cities is to build taller building blocks consist of number of apartments or flats. This will also be beneficial for builders as well as people to live,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention population growth and the need for space, the arguments remain quite general. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific analysis or evidence regarding the trade-offs of tall buildings, such as social isolation, infrastructure pressure, or environmental impact. The conclusion is a bit repetitive and lacks a final summary statement that synthesizes the main points effectively. The response is relevant, but the depth of argumentation is consistent with a mid-range band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices like 'For example' and 'Due to', but the flow between sentences can be a bit mechanical. Some transitions feel forced, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'that cities which are creating issues'. The progression of ideas is generally logical, but the connection between the problem (population growth) and the solution (tall buildings) could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer to their antecedents would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on repetitive phrasing, such as 'bigger cities' and 'huge number of'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'heighted buildings' (should be 'high-rise' or 'tall buildings') and 'challenging number of population'. While your meaning is always clear, the lexical range is somewhat limited. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms and topic-specific vocabulary related to urban planning and housing density.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. For example, 'bigger cities has less area' should be 'bigger cities have less area', and 'consist of number of apartments' should be 'consist of a number of apartments'. There are also issues with article usage and pluralization throughout the text. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they indicate a lack of control over complex structures. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
