Student answer (Band 5.0)

One of the best majors for providing enough homes in large cities is to construct tall apartments. It is one of the good idea for the growing cities. I am fully agreed with this statement due to the current problems seen in cities for housing.

Nowadays in cities areas there is lack of lands for the construction of buildings or homes. We can take example of growing city of Nepal Kathmandu. As the population is increasing in Kathmandu the avilability of land is declining and the inflation uplifts. Likewise, the problem of water, pollution has raise and it is the one of the main concern. One of the best example to address this problems is One of my friend named raj migrate to Kathmandu and he was finding a land to build a house many brokers take him to land but the land are not good and it is to expensive. Which he cannot afford.

In growing cities like Kathmandu of Nepal the best way to provide housing is to build apartments. One apartment can hold numbers of family it can be less costly also than hose as the maintenance is done month wise. It can help people to know strangers as they live in same building it is good thing for social interaction. As one of the problem of growing ciities is social interaction also.

In conclusion, construction of apartment can help in housing. It may help to live many families under single roof. To make apartment is not a rocket science. It can be possible with proper planning and budget.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of tall apartment blocks. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. While the mention of land scarcity and population growth in Kathmandu is relevant, the personal anecdote about a friend named Raj is not an effective way to support an academic argument. The ideas regarding social interaction and maintenance are mentioned but remain under-developed. To improve, you should focus on broader socio-economic arguments rather than specific personal stories, and ensure each paragraph provides a clear, logical extension of your main thesis.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical flow between and within paragraphs is often disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'One of the...' at the start of sentences. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the transition between the problem of land scarcity and the anecdote about your friend is abrupt. Improving the use of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in contrast') would help create a smoother progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'majors' instead of 'strategies' and 'inflation uplifts' instead of 'rising costs'. Some word choices are repetitive, and there are minor errors in collocation, such as 'the problem of water, pollution has raise'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more sophisticated vocabulary related to urban planning and housing, and ensure that words are used in their correct grammatical form.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While there are some attempts at complex sentences, they are often marred by grammatical errors, such as 'the land are not good' (subject-verb agreement) and 'To make apartment is not a rocket science' (missing articles and informal tone). Punctuation is inconsistent, and there are frequent errors in verb tense and article usage throughout the text. To improve, focus on mastering the use of articles, subject-verb agreement, and incorporating a wider variety of complex sentence structures with greater accuracy.
