Student answer (Band 6.0)
Many think that constructing tall houses and buildings is the perfect solution to create adequate shelters for people to live in the modern cities of the contemporary world. I completely agree with this statement because I think it is the only possible and realistic way in which the cities can accommodate the growing population and save some spaces for greeneries, while it may require large initial investment and detailed design.
The reason for my agreement is that the developed and facilitated cities are facing a problem of overpopulation. Citizens are keen to move to places that consist of better transportation, higher employment opportunities and quality education. So, in order to house the growing number of people the tall buildings would make a practical solution. Moreover, when tall buildings carry more people than a smaller one, spaces may be available for parks and green surfaces. This can help to keep nature alive in a way, in a city which only consists of concrete floors and roads. Another advantages of such area is that it will help in groundwater recharge and also avoid urban flooding caused due to short intensive rainfalls.
However, the high rise buildings not only have these merits. Constructing such infrastructures require a large sum of capital. Furthermore, a planned and detailed design is essential to build such a building which must be earthquake resistant.
In conclusion, I strongly agree with the idea of building tall apartments to create shelters for growing population and to leave some space for gardens, while the challenges should not be ignored at all.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, taking a clear position in favor of tall apartment blocks. The ideas are relevant, focusing on population density and environmental benefits. However, the development is somewhat limited. While you mention the need for 'detailed design' and 'capital', these points are not fully explored or supported with specific examples or deeper analysis. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your arguments with more concrete illustrations or logical extensions. For instance, you could explain how specific urban planning policies or technologies mitigate the costs you mentioned. The position is consistent throughout, but the depth of the argument remains at a mid-level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the benefits from the challenges. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the benefits of tall buildings and the mention of groundwater recharge is a bit abrupt. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the paragraphing structure is effective for an IELTS task of this length.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'overpopulation', 'infrastructure', and 'groundwater recharge' appropriately. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'tall houses' (which sounds unnatural for high-rise apartments) and 'Another advantages' (a grammatical error affecting lexical precision). While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, the range is somewhat limited, and some phrasing is repetitive. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring subject-verb agreement when using plural nouns after 'another'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'Another advantages' (should be 'Another advantage'), 'a city which only consists of concrete floors' (should be 'surfaces' or 'structures'), and 'the tall buildings would make a practical solution' (should be 'are'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. You have a decent grasp of complex structures, but you need to pay closer attention to article usage and pluralization to ensure greater accuracy.
