Student answer (Band 4.0)

No I am not agree for this statement because in large cities the tall apartment blocks not look beautiful . They look not well . Because in city we built a large home they look very amazing and this view was so precious full . In large home we create a garden and we buy some plants and blow him in garden . Because in this way we home beauty come back . In apartment blocks house we can not produce all hos this for example garden , car parking . In garden children play more games and in apartment blocks they can not play games . In the apartments blocks our all everything is not full in 1 blocks then they create more problems and then life was so disturb . In a open home everything is full in one block . They can not create problems then peoples life is more easy . They do this work well . In apartment blocks the people walk 2 floor and then in 1 floor then the people can not work in good way . Apartment blocks life is not a amazing life it is a boring life and open home life is a good life it take a rest to people . According to my information open house life is better then apartment blocks life . In apartment blocks life are a small home they look not a handsome they look like not fantastic . In a apartment blocks one family are not live well they do not enjoy according to his mind .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear disagreement with the statement. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. The arguments focus on the aesthetic and lifestyle benefits of 'open homes' versus the perceived problems of apartment blocks, but these points are not supported by specific examples or logical depth. The reasoning is often simplistic, such as the claim that apartment living is 'boring' or that children cannot play games in blocks. The response lacks the academic tone and structured argumentation required for Task 2. To improve, you should focus on developing two or three distinct, well-supported arguments rather than repeating similar points about beauty and convenience.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The essay lacks paragraphing, which is essential for organizing ideas in an academic essay. The flow of ideas is disjointed, and the transition between sentences is often abrupt or missing. While there is a basic attempt to link ideas using 'because' or 'in this way', these cohesive devices are used repetitively and often inaccurately. The lack of clear logical progression makes it difficult for the reader to follow the argument. To improve, you must organize your response into clear paragraphs: an introduction, body paragraphs with topic sentences, and a conclusion. Using a wider variety of linking words like 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in contrast' would also improve the structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive, relying on basic words like 'good', 'bad', 'amazing', and 'beautiful'. There is a lack of academic or topic-specific vocabulary related to urban planning or housing. Many word choices are unnatural or incorrect, such as 'blow him in garden' (likely meaning 'grow plants') and 'life was so disturb'. The misuse of collocations and word forms significantly hinders the clarity of the message. To improve, you should learn topic-specific vocabulary related to urbanization, such as 'high-density housing', 'urban sprawl', 'infrastructure', and 'sustainable development', and practice using them in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response contains frequent and severe grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'tall apartment blocks not look beautiful'), article usage, and sentence structure. The essay consists almost entirely of simple sentences with limited control over complex structures. Punctuation is also inconsistent, and the misuse of tenses makes the timeline of the argument confusing. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of auxiliary verbs. Practicing the difference between simple and complex sentences will also help you move toward a higher band score.
