Student answer (Band 6.5)

There is a shortage of accommodation for a majority of people in big cities due to an increase in population, and the most productive way to provide enough homes is by building apartment blocks instead of building large houses. I completely agree with this statement, because I believe that it will also help to have enough space for constructing schools and hospitals.

I am convinced that building apartment blocks will help in providing enough houses to people, and it will also aid in creating harmony between them. I believe that individuals who live in apartment buildings share a closer bond, as they can provide assistance in bad times. Moreover, older people who are retired and usually have nothing to do at home, feels very safe and engaged in apartment blocks, as they feel happy in assisting young couples babysitting their children, if parents needs to go for work or even on date nights.

In addition to that, constructing apartment blocks can help the government save land for schools and hospitals, as they possess a substantial value in the lives of people. With the increase in population, it is necessary to have enough resources to provide quality education and health care services. There will be plenty of space to build offices and make industries to provide more job opportunities to youngsters as well. For example, sydney was getting populated due to people migrating from all around the world, and there was a housing shortage. People were getting frustated because they had to share their houses with 5 or 6 people. The idea of constructing apartments helped in providing enough accomodation for everyone, without the need to allow people to share your space.

I conclusion, I strongly agree with building apartment buildings instead of houses, as it will create harmonay between people and will provide enough accomodation for everyone.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You have provided relevant reasons, such as the efficient use of land for public infrastructure and the social benefits of apartment living. The example of Sydney is relevant and helps support your argument. However, the development of ideas could be more sophisticated; for instance, the point about 'harmony' is a bit vague and could be better linked to the practicalities of urban planning. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'In addition to that', and 'For example' to guide the reader through your arguments. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. To reach a higher band, ensure that the relationship between sentences is more fluid and that referencing (e.g., 'they' or 'this') is always precise to avoid any ambiguity in your arguments.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'accommodation', 'infrastructure', and 'migrating'. There are some minor spelling errors, such as 'frustated' and 'harmonay', and some word choice issues, such as 'possess a substantial value' (which is slightly unnatural in this context). While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, the precision is occasionally lacking. To improve, focus on collocations and ensure that your spelling is accurate, as these small slips prevent the vocabulary from being considered truly flexible and precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this level. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('older people... feels', 'parents needs') and minor punctuation or article usage errors. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and proofread your work specifically for these types of common grammatical slips.
