Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is often argued that building tall apartment blocks is the best way to provide enough homes in large cities. I partly agree with this view because high rise building can accommodate a large number of people, but other housing solutions are also necessary.
One major reason why I agree with this view is that the tall apartment buildings provide homes a large number of people in a limited area. This is particularly useful in large cities, where land is expensive and available space is limited. For example, a single high rise building can provide homes for hundreds of families without requiring a large area of land .Another major benefit is that high rise blocks can be located near workplace and public transport, which can reduce the commuting time. For instance, a tall appointment complexe built near metro station can provide a easier travel to office.
However, I do not believe that tall building apartments is the only effective solution. If too many people live in one area, it can put pressure on public, roads, schools and other facilities. In addition, some people may prefer houses in suburban areas, where they can have more space and better quality of life.
In conclusion, I partly agree that tall apartment blocks are an effective way to provide housing in big cities. However, I believe that they should combined with other housing options and proper infrastructure to meet the need of growing population. Furthermore, this approach can help reduce urban sparwl and protect surrounding areas from excessive construction.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all parts of the task and maintained a clear position throughout. Your introduction states your partial agreement, and you provide relevant arguments for both sides. The ideas are generally well-developed, such as the mention of land scarcity and infrastructure pressure. However, some points could be extended further to reach a higher band; for instance, the discussion on suburban preferences is brief. Overall, you have provided a balanced response that directly answers the prompt with relevant examples, such as the mention of metro stations, which helps to ground your arguments in a real-world context.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'One major reason', 'In addition', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader through your arguments. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'the public' which is vague. Nevertheless, the progression of ideas is clear, and the structure supports the overall argument effectively throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task. You use topic-specific terms like 'high rise building', 'urban sprawl', and 'infrastructure'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'tall building apartments' (should be 'tall apartment buildings') and 'provide homes a large number of people' (missing 'to'). There is also a spelling error: 'sparwl' instead of 'sprawl'. While you attempt to use more sophisticated vocabulary, these minor errors and occasional awkward phrasing limit the score. Expanding your range of collocations would help improve your precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist. For example, 'high rise building can accommodate' (should be plural), 'near workplace' (should be 'workplaces'), and 'they should combined' (should be 'should be combined'). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are some inconsistent spaces before commas. Despite these errors, the meaning is never obscured, and the reader can easily follow your points. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice constructions.
