Student answer (Band 6.0)
IN THE CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY, THERE IS A DRASTIC RISE IN POPULATION AND CONGESTION. SOME PEOPLE ARGUE THAT THERE IS A DIRE NEED TO BUILD TALL APARTMENT BLOCKS TO FULFILL THE NEED OF THE HOUSES. I STRONGLY AGREE WITH THIS VIEW BECAUSE IT DECREASES THE NUMBER OF HOMELESS PEOPLE AND PROVIDE QUALITY LIFE TO THE POOR AND THE OPPRESSED PEOPLE. THIS DEVELOPMENT HAS ITS OWN DEMRITS BUT THE ADVANTAGES OUTWEIGH ITS DRAWBACKS.
THE PRIMARY REASON IS THAT THIS DEVELOPMENT HELPS US TO BUILD LARGE NUMBER OF HOUSES WITHOUT COVERING MUCH SPACE. WE SHOULD DISCOURAGE BUILDING VAST HOUSES USING MUCH LAND. WE CAN PROVIDE ACCOMMODATION TO MANY PEOPLE BY CONSTRUCTING TALL APAREMENT BLOCKS. A CLEAR EXAMPLE OF THIS IS THE INFRASTRUCTURE OF THE LARGE CITIES IN THE DEVELOPED COUNTRIES SUCH AS UK WHICH PROVIDES RESIDENCY TO THE PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD. THEY MANAGE THE POPULATION BY CONSTRUCTING APARTMENTS RATHER THAN PERSONAL HOUSES, WHICH COVER MUCH SPACE.
MOREOVER, IT ALSO MAKES LIVING MORE ECONOMICAL AND CONVENIENT. PEOPLE CAN RENT SUCH APARTMENTS RATHER THAN RENTING THE WHOLE HOUSE. SUCH KIND OF DEVELOPMENTS HELP THE PEOPLE LIVING ABROAD, WHO CANNOT AFFORD ANY LUXURY.
THE MAJOR DISADVANTAGE OF THESE BUILDINGS IS THAT THEY CAUSE SUFFOCATION AND STRESS. THEY HAVE NEGATIVE EFFECT ON THE MENTAL HEALTH. THE INCREASING RATE OF ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION AMONG PEOPLE IS DUE TO CONGESTED HOUSES AND INCREASING POPULATION, HOWEVER THE VAST HOUSES LEAD TO THE EXPOSURE OF FRESH AIR THAT HAS REFRESHING EFFECT.
TO CONCLUDE, THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD ESTABLISHE APARTMENTS OWNED BY THEM WITH CHEAP RENTS AS THEY IMPROVE THE LIVING STANDARDS OF PEOPLE AND DECREASE THE FINANCIAL WORRIES OF THEM.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of tall apartment blocks. The ideas are relevant, such as land efficiency and economic accessibility. However, the development is somewhat limited. The argument regarding mental health is introduced as a counter-argument but is not fully integrated into the overall position, and the supporting examples, such as the mention of the UK, are quite generalized. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific, detailed evidence or examples to support your claims, ensuring that the counter-argument is balanced more effectively against your main position.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'The primary reason', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the flow between the counter-argument and the conclusion could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, though some sentences within paragraphs feel slightly disconnected. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence builds logically on the previous one would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'contemporary society', 'congestion', and 'accommodation'. There are some instances of slightly unnatural word choices, such as 'fulfill the need of the houses' (should be 'housing needs') and 'vast houses' (should be 'sprawling houses' or 'low-density housing'). Spelling errors like 'APAREMENT' and 'ESTABLISHE' are present. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure careful proofreading to eliminate basic spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'provide quality life to the poor and the oppressed people' (missing 'a' or pluralization), 'the infrastructure of the large cities... which provides' (subject-verb agreement), and 'the exposure of fresh air' (preposition error). Punctuation is generally functional, but the control over articles and pluralization needs improvement. Increasing the variety of complex structures while reducing these recurring errors will help raise your score.
