Student answer (Band 6.0)
In today's rapidly changing world, shelters in big cities have become a matter of considerable debate where some people believe that buiding tall apartment blocks will provide a sufficient number of homes in big cities. However, I agree with this concept but it also has some drawbacks which can not be denied.
The primary reason why I support this view is that shelter is the basic need of the people living in any place. A massive number of people have been migrated to cities to earn their living. Due to urbanization, it is difficult to provide homes to such a large amount of people , so, the apartment buildings can offer a hundrends of homes in a specific area. For instance, an area of 1 canal constructing a tall building can provide a shelter to 50 or more families with sufficient space rather than 10 houses made for 10 families.
But it also brings some noteable drawbacks which can not be overlooked. The tall buildings have small apartments making it more conjusted and less spacious. It could be sufficient for a family of 3 to 4 members but inconvenient for a bigger family. Moreover, there is no lawn or backyard facility in appartments to have a fresh air and it is affected more by the hot and cold weathers. Furthermore, there may be issues of maintainence, like sewage and renovation for which a person should have to contact to the community heads which makes the process hectic. The aparments don't develop the sense of ownership just like the person who is having his own house at some place built according to his own requirement.
Although, there are valid arguments for both the sides but I believe that a personal house is a better option to live rather than apartments but the tall buildings also have the capability to provide roof to a number of families which can reduce quantity of homeless people.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the advantages and disadvantages of tall apartment blocks. You clearly state your position in the introduction and maintain it throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While you provide a practical example regarding space efficiency, the discussion on drawbacks is a bit list-like and could benefit from more depth. For instance, the point about 'sense of ownership' is an interesting sociological argument that could have been expanded to better support your overall stance. To reach a higher band, ensure that every point made is fully explored with clear reasoning and relevant examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. You use cohesive devices such as 'The primary reason', 'For instance', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore' to guide the reader through your arguments. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive. The concluding paragraph is a bit weak as it introduces a slight contradiction by stating that personal houses are better, which slightly undermines the consistency of your argument. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring the conclusion reinforces the main thesis without introducing new, conflicting ideas would improve your score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'urbanization', 'renovation', and 'inconvenient'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and minor spelling errors, such as 'conjusted' (congested), 'hundrends' (hundreds), and 'noteable' (notable). Additionally, phrases like 'provide a shelter' and 'a large amount of people' are slightly unnatural; 'provide shelter' and 'a large number of people' would be more accurate. To improve, focus on mastering collocations and proofreading for common spelling errors to ensure your vocabulary is used with greater precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'have been migrated' (have migrated), 'a person should have to contact to' (a person has to contact), and 'the quantity of homeless people' (the number of homeless people). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas and periods. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and refining the use of articles will significantly enhance the accuracy of your writing.
