Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding land efficiency and social interaction are relevant, though some points, such as the claim that high-rise living reduces the lack of face-to-face interaction, are somewhat underdeveloped and could benefit from more logical explanation. The essay covers all parts of the task, but the development of ideas is occasionally superficial. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is fully explained with clear links back to the main argument, rather than relying on general statements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand', 'In addition', and 'Furthermore', though some are used mechanically or incorrectly (e.g., 'In further essay'). Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between sentences can be abrupt. While the overall structure is coherent, the flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence starters. Improving the variety and precision of linking words will help the essay achieve a more natural and sophisticated flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their opinion clearly. However, there are several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'population growth is rapidly increases' and 'economical situation' (should be 'economic'). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic terms. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise academic collocations and ensuring that word forms are used correctly in context. Some spelling and grammatical errors in word choice occasionally draw attention, though they do not impede overall communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('population growth is rapidly increases'), missing articles ('in a flats'), and sentence fragments ('Which will improve...'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for basic agreement and article usage would significantly improve the clarity and accuracy of the writing.
