Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, the population growth is rapidly increasing all around the world. It is widely believed that this issue has significantly risen and leading pressure on governments to address this problem. Some individuals suggest that building tower blocks in large cities is a beneficial step to tackle the housing shortage. I firmly agree with this perspective. In this essay we will discuss some reasons which support my opinion.

On the one hand, High-rise buildings occupy a small portion of land and provide numerous homes in a limited area. For instance, due to high population limited land is available in urban areas. In addition, another benefit is living in flats brings a variety of positive impacts. A friendly environment bridges the gap between citizens of distinct backgrounds or cultures. Especially in the technology-driven world where convenience from robots or social media makes face-to-face interaction less frequent, multi-story residential complexes reduce this lack.

Furthermore, more land can be reserved for essential facilities such as education, hospitals, malls and business development areas. This will improve an economic situation of a country. Moreover, high-rise blocks are frequently affordable and close to workplaces where public transport makes travel more convenient. It leads to better lifestyle and quality of life. For example, people understand each other, share daily routines with each other, and spend effective time which results an improvement in health and social life.

In conclusion, from my perspective, in urbanization, a substantial amount of houses are constructed, for more residents constructing tall apartments is an advantageous way. Country authorities should focus on this development for addressing this issue.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed the prompt by clearly stating your agreement with the statement. The essay covers the main points, such as land efficiency and social benefits. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, while you mention that high-rise buildings improve the economic situation, you do not explain the mechanism behind this beyond a brief mention of facilities. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is fully extended with more specific reasoning or concrete examples. The conclusion is a bit repetitive and could more effectively summarise the main arguments presented in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'In addition', and 'Furthermore' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition from the discussion of land to the social impact of 'robots' in the second paragraph is slightly abrupt. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the central topic of each paragraph is generally clear, which helps the reader follow your argument without confusion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'urbanization', 'residential complexes', and 'technology-driven'. There are some instances of slightly awkward phrasing, such as 'improve an economic situation of a country' (should be 'the economic situation') and 'results an improvement' (should be 'results in'). While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, some collocations are not entirely natural. To improve, focus on learning word partnerships and ensuring that your vocabulary choices are precise and contextually appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'the population growth is rapidly increasing' (redundant; 'population is growing' is better) and 'results an improvement' (missing preposition). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors, such as the comma usage in the final paragraph. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing your control over complex sentence structures and ensuring subject-verb agreement will help improve your accuracy.
