Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, the population growth has been rapidly increasing all around the world. It is widely believed that this issue has significantly intensified and is placing pressure on governments to address this problem. Some individuals suggest that building tower blocks in large cities is a beneficial step to tackle the housing shortage. I firmly agree with this perspective. In this essay we will discuss some reasons which support my opinion.
On the one hand, high-rise buildings occupy a small portion of land and provide numerous homes in a limited area. For instance, due to high population, limited land is available in urban areas. In addition, another benefit is that living in flats brings a variety of positive impacts. A friendly environment bridges the gap between citizens of distinct backgrounds or cultures. Especially in the technology-driven world where convenience from robots or social media makes face-to-face interaction less frequent, multi-story residential complexes reduce this lack.
Furthermore, more land can be reserved for essential facilities such as education, hospitals, malls and business development areas. This will improve the economic situation of a country. Moreover, high-rise blocks are frequently affordable and close to workplaces where public transport makes travel more convenient. It leads to a better lifestyle and quality of life. For example, people understand each other, share daily routines with each other, and spend effective time which results an improvement in health and social life.
In conclusion, from my perspective, in urbanization, a substantial amount of houses are constructed, for more residents constructing tall apartments is an advantageous way. Government authorities should focus on this development for addressing this issue.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. The arguments regarding land efficiency and social interaction are relevant and supported with examples. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial; for instance, the claim that high-rise living 'bridges the gap between citizens' is asserted but not fully explored in terms of how this happens in practice. The conclusion is a bit repetitive and could have better synthesized the main points. Overall, the response covers all parts of the task well, but the depth of analysis could be improved to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'In addition', and 'Furthermore' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the vague use of 'this issue' in the introduction. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be smoother in the second paragraph.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'urbanization' and 'residential complexes'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are occasional inaccuracies in collocation, such as 'spend effective time' and 'results an improvement'. The repetition of basic words like 'problem' and 'issue' suggests a need for a wider range of synonyms to demonstrate more flexibility and precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are persistent grammatical errors, such as 'results an improvement' (missing preposition) and 'for more residents constructing tall apartments is an advantageous way' (clunky syntax). Punctuation is generally accurate, but some sentences are slightly awkward in their construction. The majority of sentences are understandable, but the frequency of minor errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band for accuracy.
