Student answer (Band 5.5)

I totally agree with the statement stating, construction of tall buildings is the best way to provide enough homes to large number of population in metro cities.

One major advantage of large building is, it provides shelter to large group of people within some space and it provides almost all the facelities which an individual house provide. The appartement in which we live consists over 100 flats, which mean more than 100 families live in that appartement, which is impossible to live at such a small space without tall buildings. Buildings generally provide a number of benefits; such as, CCTV, security guard, water supply, common swimming pool and many more; thus, it may be expensive for an individual to afford these benefits individually.

Another significant factor is, people who live in appartements are much near to each other, they share and care about each other as they are as close as next to the door. In our appartement we share special foods among each other and during festivals we meet and greet with lot of gratitude, moreover people from appartements celebrate festivals together and most of the appartements provide meeting halls for activities for various groups.

In conclusion, i fully agree with the statement saying, huge appartements are best for providing homes in large cities, which provides uncountable benefits along with saving land.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of tall apartment blocks. However, the essay fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the points regarding space efficiency and social cohesion are relevant, they are somewhat superficial and lack the depth required for a higher band. The arguments are repetitive, and the conclusion is brief. To improve, you must expand your supporting arguments with more detailed examples or counter-arguments to ensure the response is fully developed and meets the length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a basic attempt at using cohesive devices such as 'Another significant factor' and 'moreover'. However, the flow is sometimes mechanical, and the transition between ideas could be smoother. The use of referencing is occasionally repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'in our appartement'. Paragraphing is present, but the overall structure feels underdeveloped due to the brevity of the text. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a more robust internal structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision expected at higher levels. There are some spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'facelities' (facilities) and 'appartements' (apartments). The phrasing is often simplistic, relying on basic descriptors like 'large group' or 'many more'. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to urban planning and social dynamics, and pay closer attention to spelling and accurate collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('the construction of tall buildings is', 'the appartement... consists over 100 flats') and punctuation errors, such as the misuse of commas and semicolons. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of punctuation marks.
