Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of tall apartment blocks. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive. While you mention space efficiency and affordability, the arguments lack depth and rely on generalizations. For instance, the claim that 'everyone wants to live in an apartment' is an overgeneralization that weakens the academic tone. To improve, you should provide more nuanced arguments, perhaps discussing the social impact or urban planning challenges, rather than focusing primarily on views and balconies. The response covers the task requirements but remains at a basic level of argumentation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, 'To commence with' is used to start the first body paragraph, but the transition between ideas is sometimes abrupt. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final paragraph where the connection between the conclusion and the preceding arguments feels repetitive. The flow of ideas is logical, but the lack of sophisticated linking words makes the progression feel somewhat disjointed. Improving the variety of transition signals would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'big', 'nice', and 'houses'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'highest apartment blocks' (should be 'high-rise apartment blocks') and 'less place to built' (should be 'less space to build'). While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is not sufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific collocations related to urban development, such as 'urban density', 'infrastructure', or 'cost-effective housing solutions'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('every flats contains'), incorrect verb forms ('can built'), and article usage ('the sea view'). The sentence structures are predominantly simple or contain errors when attempting complex constructions. For example, 'Which fits many number of peoples in less space' is a sentence fragment. To reach a higher band, you need to demonstrate better control over basic grammar and increase the frequency of error-free complex sentences. Focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage.
