Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 189 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, as the arguments are presented in a very superficial manner. While you establish a position in favor of tall apartment blocks, the supporting points—such as environmental impact and economic progress—are underdeveloped and lack specific examples or logical depth. To improve, you must expand your arguments with detailed explanations and concrete illustrations to fully address the prompt. The current length prevents a thorough exploration of the topic, resulting in a limited response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is disjointed. While there is an attempt to use linking words like 'On the other hand' and 'To conclude', the transitions between sentences are often abrupt or confusing, such as the shift between the second and third paragraphs. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, which hinders the flow of the argument. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking phrases to connect your ideas more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that supports your overall thesis.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is basic and repetitive, which limits your ability to express complex ideas. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'superwise enough homes' (likely meaning 'provide') and 'nit much bigger'. You rely on simple, everyday language rather than academic vocabulary suitable for an IELTS Task 2 essay. To achieve a higher band, you should work on using more precise, topic-specific vocabulary related to urban planning and housing, and focus on improving your collocation skills to ensure your word choices sound natural in an academic context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'This is ongoing debate that The best way...', 'Now a days all the people moving', and 'Pollution may causes all the creatures badly'. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the simple sentences used often contain errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage. To improve, you need to focus on basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring correct verb forms and consistent tense usage. Practicing the use of complex sentences, such as those using relative clauses or conditional structures, will also help you demonstrate a wider grammatical range.
