Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is often claimed that building tall apartments is the best method to provide enough housing in crowded cities. Personally, I agree with this view. The reasons for my opinion is that population is growing and the need of green space .

On the one hand, one significant reason why I agree with this view is that population in large cities is increasing year after year. The reason for this is that these cities offer more opportunities in the job market than other towns, so people will be attracted to this opportunities and move to large citites from over the country. For example, the available opportunities in Paris are more than opportunities in Nice. Furthermore, cities will be crowded by people.

On the other hand, another important reason is green space. The human needs green space to relax, animals need it to to live. So if people don't build tall apartments, they will have to build many housing and this causes a lack in green spaces which is necessaty for the univers.

In conclusion, i believe that creating tall apartments is benefecial because population is rising and the need of green spaces .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 193 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, which remain superficial and under-developed. While you state a clear position, the arguments regarding population growth and green space are presented in a very basic manner without sufficient elaboration or concrete evidence. To improve, you must expand your points by explaining the 'how' and 'why' behind your claims and providing more detailed examples. The conclusion is also repetitive and lacks a summary of the main points discussed, which is necessary for a fully developed response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a basic attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand' and 'Furthermore'. However, the progression of ideas is limited by the brevity of the text. Some transitions feel mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the vague reference to 'the univers' in the second body paragraph. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence followed by supporting details that flow naturally into one another.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for basic communication but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of word-choice errors and spelling mistakes, such as 'necessaty' instead of 'necessary' and 'benefecial' instead of 'beneficial'. The range of vocabulary is quite limited, relying on simple terms like 'crowded' and 'opportunities'. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to urban planning and housing, and ensure that you proofread your work to eliminate basic spelling errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While there are some attempts at complex sentences, they often contain grammatical errors, such as 'The reasons for my opinion is that...' (subject-verb agreement error) and 'the need of green space' (incorrect preposition). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are errors in article usage and pluralization throughout the text. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and expanding your range of complex structures, such as using relative clauses or conditional sentences, while ensuring they are grammatically accurate.
