Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of tall apartment blocks to preserve agricultural land. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. The arguments regarding population growth and food security are relevant but lack depth and specific evidence. The example provided about a farmer selling land is somewhat unclear and does not effectively support the main argument. The response tends to over-generalize, and the connection between the proposed solution (tall buildings) and the problem (food security) is stated rather than logically explored. To improve, you should provide more detailed explanations and concrete examples to support your claims.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often disjointed. While there are attempts to use cohesive devices like 'the primary reason' and 'the secondary reason', the transitions between sentences are frequently awkward or missing. The use of referencing is often unclear, particularly with the pronoun 'they' and 'these'. The conclusion is repetitive and does not effectively summarize the main points. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words and ensure that each sentence flows logically from the previous one, avoiding unnecessary repetition of phrases.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic terms like 'people', 'land', and 'building'. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'the primary reson is that we also known' and 'eat our land'. Some words are misspelled, such as 'eassy', 'reson', 'agricultrual', and 'neccassry'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas with precision. To improve, you should expand your vocabulary by learning synonyms and collocations related to urban planning and environmental issues, and pay closer attention to spelling and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people makes'), tense usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on or fragmented, making the text difficult to follow. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the simple sentences used often contain errors in articles, prepositions, and pluralization. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and practicing the correct use of articles and tenses. Proofreading for basic punctuation and capitalization errors would also be highly beneficial.
