Student answer (Band 5.5)

In today's time frame where large urban areas have high density of population.Because of high density of population they face scarcity of homes in urban areas. Some individuals suggest an idea is that the best way to provide enough homes in large urban areas is to construct high-rise buildings. I believe that constructing high-rise buildings would provide enough homes in urban areas.

In addition, states like delhi, mumbai and bangalore are counted among biggest metropolises with high density of population. A large number of population migrate every year from other states to in these states in search of employment as a result these metropolises get over-crowded and face scarcity of homes. Furthermore, some individual job seekers are living in shared apartment because of lack of space to live.

However, constructing high-rise buildings would help numerous individuals by providing enough space to stay along with their family members. Because of these new buildings the metropolises look more sophisticated and attractive. Furthermore the new flats will sold out soon because of their high demand in the market.

To conclude, building high-rise apartments in urban areas could be a beneficial decision for numerous job seekers who migrate from their homeland into the other states in search of employment. Moreover, the sophisticated image of metropolis states will rose gradually and other states also will get inspired with these urban areas. Thus from my point of view it's a beneficial idea for peoples and by building new apartments makes an area look more developed and attractive

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of high-rise buildings. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention population density and migration, the arguments remain somewhat superficial. For example, you state that buildings look 'sophisticated' and 'attractive,' but you do not explain how these structures solve the core issue of housing affordability or infrastructure strain in a detailed way. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific evidence or logical reasoning regarding the social or economic impact of high-rise living, rather than relying on general assertions. The conclusion is repetitive and does not fully synthesize the points made.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive. Phrases like 'Furthermore' and 'In addition' are used to start sentences, but the logical flow between ideas is sometimes disjointed. For instance, the transition from the problem of migration to the aesthetic benefits of high-rise buildings is abrupt. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'these metropolises get over-crowded,' where the connection to the previous sentence could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring a clearer progression of thought would enhance the coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. You use basic terms like 'big,' 'good,' and 'attractive' repeatedly. There are also some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'metropolis states' (which is not standard usage) and 'the sophisticated image... will rose' (incorrect verb form). While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of more sophisticated vocabulary and the presence of errors in word formation prevent a higher score. Focusing on learning topic-specific collocations related to urban planning would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'In today's time frame where large urban areas have high density of population' (fragmented sentence), 'some individuals suggest an idea is that' (redundant phrasing), and 'the new flats will sold out' (incorrect passive voice). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing after periods. While the meaning is usually understandable, the frequency of these errors indicates a need for more careful proofreading and a better grasp of sentence construction and verb tenses.
