Student answer (Band 5.0)
There has been an argument going on that the smarter and effective way to provide enough habitat is to establish high and tall flats or apartments in the metropolitan cities rather than building separate and individual bungalows.
Many countries are adopting this new construction plan to build more flats to save the space at the same time providing all the modern amenities to buyers and consumers. There are several advantages and disadvantages of constructing tall apartments. For instance, China has already establish tall apartments whether its personal or commercial It has greatly benefited them to manage their population and at the same time proving all the modern facilities to consumers.
Advantages of promoting this new thoughts are vast, Instead of building separate villas, houses government should promote more tall apartment blocks over tenements it may occupy the most of the space so building bungalows will not be good idea instead of that better public transport, hospitals, schools, education centers could be made to tackle with population and at the same time space could be used in the big cities to provide better education, healthcare and other problems like traffic conjunction. For example, Japan is the country where all the space of the any area are used very smartly instead of creating big rooms they prefer medium size and small rooms to maintain the country and cities among them.
Another solution could be considering to build tall apartment blocks in the crowded cities and provide all the beautiful and modern facilities to people who are living there and promoting separate bungalows and houses outside of crowded places. This might solve the problem of both sides.
In my opinion, I completely agree with the statement that tall apartment blocks should be constructed more over separate houses.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether building tall apartment blocks is the best way to provide enough homes in large cities, and the writer clearly takes a position in agreement at the end of the essay. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. While the writer mentions advantages such as saving space and providing modern amenities, and attempts to bring in examples from China and Japan, these examples lack depth and specific detail. Furthermore, the final paragraph unexpectedly introduces a new suggestion about building bungalows outside crowded places rather than focusing solely on extending the main argument. Consequently, the task is addressed adequately, but the support and extension of ideas remain at a Band 6 level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay displays a basic overall progression, starting with an introduction, moving through body paragraphs with examples, and concluding with a clear stance. However, cohesion is frequently faulty and mechanical. Sentences are often joined clumsily using transitional phrases like 'For instance', 'Advantages of promoting this new thoughts are vast, Instead of building...', and 'Another solution could be considering...'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the third body paragraph feels disjointed and repetitive. Referencing can also be unclear, such as the pronoun use in 'maintain the country and cities among them'. Overall, the organizational structure shows clear deficiencies, aligning with a Band 5 score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases such as 'metropolitan cities', 'modern amenities', and 'traffic conjunction' (though the latter contains a collocation error). There are noticeable errors in word choice, form, and collocation throughout the text, for instance, writing 'habitat' instead of 'housing', 'establish' instead of 'established', and 'new thoughts' instead of 'new ideas'. Spelling is generally acceptable, but vocabulary limitations and awkward phrasing occasionally impede smooth reading, placing the lexical control firmly at Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar is inconsistent. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses, article usage, and sentence boundaries. Examples include 'There has been an argument going on that the smarter and effective way...', 'China has already establish tall apartments whether its personal or commercial It has greatly benefited...', and run-on structures like '...over tenements it may occupy the most of the space so building bungalows will not be good idea...'. These errors can cause difficulty and re-reading for the reader, which is characteristic of a Band 5 performance.
