Student answer (Band 6.0)

A suitable way to provide enough residence in bigger cities is by building tall apartments. I firmly agree with this view because it will occupy less space, and will also improve the infrastructure of the city.

First and foremost reason is that less land will be utlilized, which in turn will give more living space for the people. More people can live at one building without needing the extra space, tha will also give them secure enviroment with specialized entries to the building after being throughly checked. Furthermore, following this house plan, can save land for other public amenities like parking, parks, metro-services imroving the quality of life. For example, Ufone tower in Islamabad is a home to many companies rather than needing a separate physical place.

Another major reason is the improved cities infrastructure, socities with same building design pattern and architect will create a coherent and structured appearance. Following this well planned housing scheme will prevent the needless expansion, hence protecting the natural environment. People who travel to other cities for earning purposes would be able to rent their accomodation effortlessly. Such advancements will eventually, contribute to the overall growth and development of the country, making it more financially stable. Bahria town provides a clear illustration of this with with advanced modern infrastructure while retaining the natual beauty as-is.

The optimal way to provide larger number of homes involves building taller apartment blocks. I strongly believe the doing this can provide accomodation to a greater number of people, withoug having to occupy unnecessary location.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt directly, taking a clear stance that tall apartment blocks are the best solution for urban housing shortages. The student supports this position with relevant arguments regarding space-saving and infrastructural improvement. Ideas are extended with some supporting points, such as mentioning public amenities like parks and parking. However, the development of ideas tends to be slightly superficial, and some examples provided, such as citing the 'Ufone tower' which is a commercial office building rather than a residential block, show a lack of precision. Furthermore, the final paragraph largely restates the opening without adding new depth. Consequently, the response fulfills the requirements for a Band 6.5, as it addresses all parts of the task with a clear position and relevant ideas, but some points remain somewhat under-developed or imprecise.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a generally coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at logical progression. The response is divided into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are employed to connect ideas, such as 'First and foremost reason', 'Furthermore', and 'Another major reason'. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, the transition between sentences can feel abrupt, and phrasing such as 'with with advanced modern infrastructure' contains a clunky duplication. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to structure the essay, but the management of cohesive links prevents it from reaching a higher band. Overall, the organizational structure is clear enough to earn a solid Band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'infrastructure', 'amenities', 'coherent', and 'advancements'. There are several attempts to use less common vocabulary, though this is sometimes accompanied by inaccuracy or awkward collocation, such as 'utlilized', 'accomodation', and 'natual'. Spelling errors like 'tha' instead of 'that', 'enviroment', 'imroving', 'socities', and 'architect' (when architecture or architectural was intended) occur throughout the text. These lexical slips and spelling mistakes do not seriously impede communication, but they restrict the score to a Band 6, as the vocabulary range and precision are not consistently maintained at a higher level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar with structures like 'People who travel to other cities for earning purposes would be able to rent...' However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation issues throughout the response. Examples include missing articles ('in one building', 'to provide larger number'), comma splices and misplaced commas ('Furthermore, following this house plan, can save...'), and incorrect prepositions or verb forms ('the doing this can provide'). While the meaning is generally clear and communication is rarely impeded by these errors, the high frequency of minor grammatical slips prevents the response from achieving a Band 7. The control of grammar aligns best with the Band 6 descriptor.
