Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the prompt regarding whether tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide housing in large cities, touching upon aspects such as personal space, privacy, and the lack of connection to nature. However, the position is not always clear and ideas are repetitious and severely under-developed. For instance, the student states in the introduction 'I think agree the large cities build the apartment blocks is provided many facilities' but then immediately mentions the drawback of lacking environmental connection. The development of these ideas remains limited and somewhat confusing throughout the body paragraphs, aligning closely with the Band 5 descriptor where the task is addressed only partially and ideas are limited and under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The essay lacks clear logical organisation and progression. Although there are identifiable paragraphs corresponding to an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, the internal structure of each paragraph is disjointed and confusing. For instance, Body paragraph 1 jumps abruptly between privacy and general life interruptions without smooth transitional phrases. Cohesive devices are generally inadequate or incorrectly used, as seen in phrases like 'the large cities is to build a apartment is blocks some time is good'. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the train of thought. This matches the characteristics of Band 4, where information and ideas are not arranged coherently and progression is lacking.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, relying heavily on words like 'apartment', 'blocks', 'nature', and 'feeling'. There are severe limitations in lexical range, and numerous word-choice errors occur, such as 'discount people' or 'owner house of this graden'. Furthermore, word formation and spelling errors ('privcy', 'dis agree') are common. The range of vocabulary is barely adequate to communicate simple ideas and frequently causes strain and confusion for the reader, fitting the Band 4 descriptor where basic, repetitive vocabulary and errors severely restrict communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, consisting almost entirely of poorly constructed simple or attempted complex sentences that are heavily flawed. Almost every sentence contains major grammatical errors, incorrect verb forms, or missing punctuation, such as 'I think agree the large cities build the apartment blocks is provided many facilities'. There is a complete lack of error-free sentences, and the frequent errors frequently distort meaning and create significant difficulty for the reader. This performance aligns squarely with the Band 4 descriptor for grammatical range and accuracy.
