Student answer (Band 5.5)

Environment concers have become a major concerns across the world, while government giving priority to vertical living spaces rather than horizontal homes . Although this practice is quite popular in urban cities where living spaces are not enough and taxes are quitely higher . In my view point economic progess and environment protection should be persued simultaneously with this similar practice to build flats and appartments in to prevent harm to environment in cities where population is overcrowded like metropolitan cities.

Economic growth is important because it provides governments and individual with great resources . Implementing the regulation to construct appartment systems will leads to empower more living areas to establish public spaces and build a better infrastrucure for the economy . Due to this practice governments can expand their transportation network to provide jobs and improve access to essential services . Therefore making places for activities and green spaces positively affect people's livehoods .

Neverless economic growth that ignores environment can create long- term problems . If there is an excess establishment of industries occurs , it will hinder the holistical growth of individual who are living in these cities . Also owning an apartment is quite cheaper as compared to a house or villa in a big city . A research from indian institute of technology Mumbai states that Vertical housing practice came out to be better preservation of environment where population is overcrowded .

In conclusion economic development is essential for improving people quality life but it should not came at the expense of the environment . A combintion of government regulations , green investment like creating an apartment is very prestigious practice to follow in metropolitan cities .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether building tall apartment blocks is the best way to provide enough homes in large cities. The writer presents a clear position that balances economic progress and environmental protection through vertical housing. Ideas are presented, such as the economic benefits of structured apartment development and research support from an Indian institute. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed or tangential, particularly the discussion on industrial establishment in the third paragraph, which drifts away slightly from the core focus on residential vertical housing. While the writer covers the task adequately and puts forward relevant arguments, the overall depth of task response aligns best with a Band 6.0 descriptor due to some under-developed and wandering points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is divided into an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing an attempt at logical organization and progression. Paragraphing is used, though the grouping of ideas could be sharper. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'Although this practice', 'Due to this practice', and 'Neverless', but there are noticeable cohesion and referencing issues. For instance, 'Neverless' is a spelling error for 'Nevertheless', and some transitions feel slightly mechanical or abrupt. Pronoun referencing and signposting are occasionally unclear, requiring the reader to work harder to follow the progression of thought. These features place the response firmly in the Band 6.0 category for Coherence and Cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student attempts a range of vocabulary suitable for an academic task, using terms such as 'vertical living spaces', 'metropolitan cities', 'infrastructure', and 'preservation of environment'. However, there are frequent lexical errors, incorrect word forms, and spelling mistakes throughout the text, including 'concers' instead of concerns, 'quitely' instead of quite, 'progess' instead of progress, 'persued' instead of pursued, 'appartment' instead of apartment, 'holistical' instead of holistic, and 'combintion' instead of combination. Additionally, collocation and word choice are sometimes imprecise, such as 'prestigious practice'. These issues restrict the lexical score to a Band 5.0, as the numerous errors in spelling and word choice cause some distraction and difficulty for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional and subordinate clauses like 'Although this practice is quite popular...'. However, grammatical accuracy is weak throughout the response. There are frequent errors in basic grammar, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation, such as 'government giving priority' instead of 'governments give priority', 'will leads to' instead of 'will lead to', 'people's livehoods' instead of 'people's livelihoods', and missing articles like 'an apartment is very prestigious practice'. Punctuation errors, including spaces before commas, also occur frequently. Because the attempts at complex sentences are often faulty and frequent errors persist, the grammar performance is characteristic of a Band 5.0.
